Ivy Tech Community College School of Nursing NRSG 128 Practice Issues for the Practical Nurse Discussion Rubric Name: ___Jasmine Liubakka___________ Date: _________10-27-15_______________ Topic of Discussion: Should the impaired nurse be allowed to return to work? Position on Topic: (1) Points ________________ Yes, I feel that as long as the nurse participates in a program that includes requirements of regular attendance at support group meetings, personal and active involvement with a 12-step sponsor, and close contact with a case manager or monitor of an alternative program, she should be allowed to return to work.
I always assumed that someone’s health could only be treated by a doctor. Nonetheless, as my education flourished I soon realized that programs that focus on preventing adverse health outcomes could reduce the incidence of disease. Furthermore, public health provided the opportunity to develop prevention programs to assist those who suffered from mental illness. To learn this was not only exciting, it provided a break in the current gap of mental health prevention programs currently being offered in my county’s school districts.

As always, keeping your relationships between patients always professional. In remembering that home health is a business and not a social even can help to keep patient’s health as a priority as a clinician. Such as, several hospitalization for mental health concerns, lack of training and education in medical staff that lead to improper referrals and occasionally chart reviews by a provider after a massive emergency. This has provoked patient leaving with out referrals and not being linked to care or being managed poorly. Many patients have stigma even being associated with the term ‘mental health’, which can then lead to no treatment at all (CORRIGAN & WATSON (2002). Another main focus is to provide the necessary information/resources to prepare practitioners for the arrival of integrated health care. This includes the education being provided to staff members in hopes to engage patients in behavioral health services to improve their overall well-being, medical and behavioral health.
1.2 Explain the key strengths and limitations of the psychiatric classification system? The classification of mental disorders is a key aspect of psychiatry and other mental health professions and an important issue for people who may be diagnosed. The key strengths of the psychiatric classification system are the inappropriate behaviours displayed by individuals are dealt with, all disorders are arranged, organised and described in an acceptable manner and order, it is used all over the world so correct diagnoses and treatment are used.

Introduction: Schizophrenia is a chronic mental disorder, which affects one per cent of the total population. It inhibits the capability of an individual to think, behave, and feel. Individuals suffering from schizophrenia have difficulty in differentiating what is imaginary and what is real (Emsley, Chiliza & Asmal, 2013). The case study topic chosen for this assignment is the case study 2, a 22-year-old man named Edward who is presenting schizophrenia and being admitted for the first time. In this assignment, questions have been provided for students to describe the ways in which nurses should assess, manage and assist a patient with schizophrenia.

Through this initial assessment, the nurse can obtain information that is crucial in providing the client with effective holistic care. Nursing assessment framework tools are used to help the nurse obtain accurate information about the patient’s wants and needs. This initial assessment based on subjective and objective data, helps to determine the patient’s actual problems and potential problems (Weber & Kelley, 2013). An assessment is carried out to obtain objective data and a physical baseline of the patient on admission.
Ethical Considerations Considering that one of the fundamental ethical considerations in therapy is to do no harm, it is useful to comprehend which treatments increase the risk. Approximately 10% of all clients in therapy have detrimental clinical outcomes (Boisvert & Faust, 2003), and it has been suggested that relational interventions have a higher probability of doing harm (Lilienfeld, 2007). Lilienfeld (2007) devised a provisional list of potentially harmful therapies and suggested that therapies involving the therapeutic relationship may increase the risk of harm due to the potential for deterioration as a result of releasing powerful affect. More so, if not managed correctly, this highly emotive environment may produce negative emotions
