For this assignment I observed student and faculty members in the second floor of the Johnson Center, located in George Mason University. It was a Thursday around 1:15pm. I was sitting at a high table in front of the bookstore so that I can have a view of the entire floor. Nothing out of the norm occurred during the hour and half minutes I stayed there. However, I did see a couple of behavioral norms operating in this site.
In 1971 Standford University held an experiment to see the psychological changes in people who are given higher authority and those who are not due to the way they act around one another. In this experiment a group of college students were split into two groups, one of which were to be prison guards and the others the prisoners. Throughout the course of the study psychologists were able to study the change in atmosphere and development of people from each group.
She just wanted to have fun boys but in reality, she was following the norms of society and how you should act when you are talking with a boy. In a way, she would
The audience also joined in the fun and games. Dr. Leach flung specially made Pep Rally shirts into the bleachers, which made for a good laugh. I think it’s also important to note my lack of awareness of our gym’s bleachers until this afternoon!
In order to evaluate the contribution of qualitative research on friendship, it is crucial to define and have some background of friendship, define and understand qualitative approach and then evaluate its contribution to friendship research. The House on Mango Street consists of many short stories that explain the life of a young girl named Esperanza. It also explains her living situation; poverty in a crime riddance neighborhood. In addition, she also states the various obstacles that she has to overcome in her everyday life, such as wearing cheap clothes, eating the lunches her mom makes, living in her home, etc. Reading the book once without looking at it through an analytical perspective the book may seem two-dimensional and flat. While Cisneros’ stories may be short, after re-reading it to get a deeper understanding as to what she really means, the significance of the text becomes even more visible, and the interpretations become increasingly powerful.
For the parent-child interaction observation, I decided to use my community park as the public setting. My observation consisted of watching the interaction of a mother and her two sons, who seemed to be twins around the age of six or seven years old. I observed the interaction from afar without them being aware that I was observing, which allowed me to note a true naturalistic observation without manipulation of the situation. The setting of the interaction was a community park, where a mother and her two sons of Indian ethnicity, were approaching a basketball court area. The mother began to strap a helmet on one son because he was about to ride his bike, while the other son was walking alongside them holding a basketball.
For the second ten minute observation, I observed was during the teacher during circle time. They do a 20 minute circle every morning and the children love it. For this observation, I would give the teacher a rating of 5 for responding to social cues. During the circle time, she would ask questions and let the children talk. She would pick on kids with their hands up and allow them to speak and she would also pick on the kids that clearly wanted to talk, where either trying to talk without raising their hands.
Public Space Observation Rachael Blouw Doctor Henderson World Urban Sociology For this project, I went to the University Center main lobby to observe people’s behavior. In this space, there are many people who were walking around, sitting at tables, and going to classes. This public area can be accessed by anyone for most of the day, except at night. I decided to sit toward the back of the lobby area, so I could watch everyone while they went about their business. I noticed several different behaviors between people.
I end this paper with a concise conclusion. Observation 1 • Summary Daniel is in the dining area of the childcare Centre where breakfast is being served by the teachers. There are three teachers with children ranging from 20 months to 6 years. There are 20 children at the dining area. • Evaluation
It is a very clean environment which makes people feel extremely comfortable in the situation that they are in. Having the right temperature for the gym is always key, if the gym is too hot it will be uncomfortable for the visitors and also would help allow for bacteria to grow. If the gym is too cold it could cause issue with warming up routines and could also cause sickness. This gym had the perfect temperature so the visitors were comfortable. The gym also has a moderate noise level, nobody is yelling in such a way that they are disturbing the work out of another person, which helps to create a positive atmosphere for all people who want to work out in the

Observation Assignment #1 For this observation I chose to study and observe the use of space in different interactions at a restaurant. The study of how we perceive and use space is called proxemics. Proxemics is studied because it can tell us a lot about people’s relationships and help us decode the messages that others send to each other (Guerrero, 2008, p.182). I went to a cafe for this observation and made sure I found a seat facing a lot of other tables.
