From a deep sleep I awoke feeling inspired, anxious, and optimistic, I had an epiphany that I should run for Junior Class Treasurer. Consequently, I just returned home from our school’s annual elite leadership retreat my sophomore year. While at the retreat, it became apparent that I wanted to partake in additional leadership opportunities and explore my potential. After all, serving on student senate for two years convinced me to step up and encounter a new challenge. I cherished my time participating in senate however; I was determined to expand my involvement in my school and community. So, I did it, I went out on a limb and ran. To campaign, I made posters and hung them in various locations around the school; I gave a speech explaining how I’d be a proficient and worthy candidate for Junior Class Treasurer. When Election Day came, the two candidates and I wished each other good luck while secretly hoping we’d earn the title of Junior Class …show more content…
Thankfully, I made it to the second round; I was as relieved as a zebra that outran a lion. Now, the only thing standing between me and the chance to become Junior Class Treasurer was one of my classmates. On May 18th, 2015 I nervously awaited the afterschool announcements for the reveal of the results. My heart was racing, my palms were sweating, and the hair on my arms was standing. I impatiently waited feeling nauseous. It was soon announced and what I had feared would happen, did. The dreadful news struck my soul. I lost, I did not become treasurer. Nevertheless, I did receive the opportunity to become Junior Class Student Relations Coordinator since I had the second most votes. I was deflated, even so, I was not going to let it get the best of me or ruin my junior year. I truly treasured the experience of being Student Relations Coordinator and realized that even though I did not win, I was still able to make a difference in an effective
As a student, I passionately feel that your college experience is what you make of it. I wanted to make my experience one consisting of philanthropy, scholarship, and leadership. As of 2016, I am an event chair, for Relay for Life. Relay for Life is one of the American Cancer society’s largest fundraisers, al over the nation. I chose to undertake this role to honor all of who have touched my heart, as well as everyone who has battled cancer.
Margaret Talbot’s “Best in Class” is an enticing and informational article about the argument on whether or not Valedictorians are a good thing. Having one valedictorian has been a tradition in schools for many, many years; however, as times change, students are becoming more invested and determined in school, so many kids are missing being valedictorian by 0.001%. Therefore, Talbot brings to light both sides of the story in this extraordinary article. Although Margaret seems to not choose a side, it is obvious through her strong diction and testimonies that she believes that appointing a single valedictorian is an unfair custom throughout U.S. schools.
Through the National Student Leadership Conference, I will be marching out of my comfort zone and learning qualities that will aid me in becoming a better leader. In my school there are numerous leadership opportunities, from being class president, to being a house captain, to planning a school wide event.
I've always seen myself as a leader So,I was disappointed to know that In school when they were choosing the Posse Nomene they did not choose me. The Posse Scholarship is a four year scholarship for students who show leadership and accomplish to good grades. When I heard that I was not nominated by my school, my thoughts immediately turned to myself. Was I not a leader? I'm not just an activist fighting for what's right, this is how I am an activist, a feminist.
My freshman year I joined the student government program at my school and I’ve been apart of it ever since. I find student government to be my new soccer. Just like in soccer, every term there is new kids. Some kids walk into the class having never been apart of a leadership class before. In order to prepare
The atmosphere of Schoenfeld Campus Gym had been electrifying Thursday afternoon. The Fall Homecoming Pep Rally included numerous activities for Concordia’s sports team to partake in. For example, one “challenge” involved a member of the sports team getting wrapped up in toilet paper, under the pressure of a time clock. When time ran out, whichever individual was wrapped in the most toilet paper (or looked the most like they had just emerged from an Egyptian pyramid) won that game. The CCNY Pep Rally acted as an opportunity for the rest of the student body to become familiar with our famed athletic program, and to mingle with this elite status of the student.
Beneficial characteristics, like integrity and humility, are not prevalent within the graduation ceremony. Instead, Talbot, uses Kennedy’s observation to discreetly give the impression that the competition for valedictorian has unfavorable consequences. Lastly, Talbot takes advantage of her first hand testimonies of all viewpoints of the competition in order to create an impartial tone. In addition to the statements by the principal and the valedictorian, Talbot addresses the point of view from the students who had their title stolen from them. According to Stephanie Klotz, a home-schooled student, she had her title taken away and it was “seriously uncool” (227).
At the end of junior year, a majority of the upperclassmen band members send in applications to become the next leaders of the band during marching season. These leaders are the role models that, as an upcoming senior, I intended to join. I couldn’t understand how I couldn’t get it. I spent hours after performances unloading supplies. I had perfect attendance for every afterschool practice since freshmen year and always turned everything in on time.
It would enjoy me to be President of National Honor Society and to represent our Society and school throughout the community. I have known many of you throughout my high school years and have discussed projects that can make our school a more enjoyable and friendly place for students. I want to lead our group of 52 upperlevel students through group projects in our area such as Season of Hope for Families. I have been doing research and prepairing how we could go about fundraising and helping out or community. In this fundraiser, we could help by aquiring Board games and Arts and Craft Kits.
I undertook the role of serving on the Elections Board Committee and intended to put forth my full effort into a position I had the privilege of receiving. In my experience being a student leader, I have not lead others on a statewide level nor had any impact on this level. The role I campaigned for and won elevated my passion for leadership. Being given a platform in which I was allowed to spread my ability to advocate was an event that significantly made me who I am today. My responsibilities were to cooperatively work with a group of students and reenact an official voting for roles in government.
I knew it would be hard and that I would be running against some amazing members. Being an officer is a lot of responsibility, and I wasn’t sure if it was something I was prepared for. I was anxious and anticipating defeat. I had a few late nights researching the offices and the duties I might have to fulfill. I looked all over the National FFA Organization’s website for the answers to my questions and to ease my nerves.

Work with children Throughout my high school and college years, I have had several experiences with children that have all played a part in shaping my love for working with children. During high school, I spent two summers nannying for two young school aged children. Working with these siblings really made me realize how much fun I have working with children and watching them grow. Once I came to college, I started another babysitting job working with two four year old twin girls.

I begged or "campaigned" for votes, smiled and chatted with people I would have never given a second thought for. Then they announced "Senior Class Treasurer is.." it's not
