In two thousand and nine there was a national survey done by The National Institute Drug Abuse which showed that more than one hundred and four million kids over the age of twelve had at least used marijuana at least once in life. Parents that is a serious problem! A hundred and four million kids, not a thousand, but a million kids. The consumption of marijuana in teens has risen in the last couple of years and continues to keep getting higher and higher. This problem has risen because of the parents not taking action in the teen’s life when they were younger and developing the lessons of life. The use of marijuana by teens is a serious issue and has a serious consequence that needs to be addressed, but with every issue there is usually a way to solve it and the way to solve this problem starts with the parents. Marijuana use in teens is dangerous and can cause health problems and other problems such as judgment and brain damage. The most known health issue is the effects it has on an adult’s lungs. It can cause chronic bronchitis, which is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes which carry air to your lungs. Chronic bronchitis can lead to coughing and difficulty breathing. Another affect it has is on the immune-system which can lead to other diseases such as Aspergillus having an easier access to your body. Aspergillus is a fungal infection in the lungs. It causes safety issues, can get in the hands of minors, and leads to other dangerous drugs. People think that marijuana cures and relaxes cancer patients. True, it has some benefits, but there are numerous other medications and treatments that relax patients and compromise the risk of cancer. Marijuana is a big safety risk, it causes the multitude of car accidents and other crimes. It also can affect minors who use it, causing them lower life satisfaction and later in life, psychosis.
In the “Marijuana: A Continuing Concern for Pediatricians” article the author points out the fact that marijuana is in fact “an addictive, mind-altering drug capable of inducing dependency” (Marijuana: A Continuing Concern). After some research this statement has been clearly supported. According to the author of “Marijuana: Breaking Down the Buzz” being under the influence of the drug has led to very poor decisions. Some of the poor decisions teenagers make while being under the influence include; people not completing high school, having failing grades if they are still in school, and doing reckless things while behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Marijuana is also commonly referred to as; dope, grass, cannabis Sativa, weed, pot, ganja and Mary Jane. It is the third most commonly used drug in the world after tobacco and alcohol. One of the most well designed studies on marijuana and intelligence, released in 2012, found that persistent, heavy use of marijuana by adolescents reduces IQ by as much as eight points, when tested well into adulthood. Other studies have found that marijuana use is linked with dropping out of school, and subsequent unemployment, social welfare dependence, and a lower self-reported quality of life than non-marijuana abusing people. According to the U.S. National Survey on Drug Use and Health, youth with poor academic results were more than four times as likely to have used marijuana in the past year as youth with an average of higher grades. This is consistent with an exhaustive meta-analysis examining forty-eight different studies by Macleod and colleagues, published by Lancet, who found that marijuana use is consistently associated with reduced grades and a reduced chance of graduating from school. In addition, studies have linked employee marijuana use with “increased absences, tardiness, accidents, workers’ compensation claims, and job turnover.”
With the pressure to legalize marijuana rise for government officials, protesters argue that decriminalizing marijuana would help society and benefit the people living in the Unites States. In states that have already legalized marijuana, it has been documented and proven that marijuana usage has been higher than before legalization, even if the consequences were very severe (“Marijuana Decriminalization”). If people are so highly dedicated to continuingcontinue using marijuana, even with their lives and future at stake, what could stop them? Marijuana has been proven to be a “gateway” drug, therefore, if marijuana were to be legalized, eventually other harmful substances could be legalized as well causing many deaths and various forms of
