President Jefferson is currently making attempts to solve the problem. His goal is to avoid any way with Britain and France. Seven months ago, Jefferson announced the Embargo Act. From then on, all trade with foreign countries is banned. No ships will leave or have left American waters. The hope is to stop the British and the few French to quite seizing ships. Now it seems that the exports have fallen from $109 million to, now, almost $38 million and is expected to continue to drop.
Rapidly, jobs are being lost and prices of crops declining. Smuggling has been seen in both the North and the South, especially through Canada. Many merchants in the North have been affected greatly and are losing jobs. Rumours say that Jefferson is
