Often, students in the public education system feel as though their opinions are unheard. Public schools rarely allow students to evaluate the teachers they have had in previous courses. This leads to a lack of students' input getting taken into consideration with the courses they are required to take. Implementing a system which allows students in public schools to evaluate their teachers annually would benefit schools throughout the country. Not only would this be a beneficial system for students, it would also assist in the hiring process and betterment of teachers. As students go through school, they have educators who influence them and lay their educational values. When students are in a class they get undeviatingly evaluated by the teacher …show more content…
Many believe that the capability to go online and search how other students rate the professor they are about to enroll under is a highly beneficial and important resource. For example, Sarah Leberknight in the article “Rate My Professors Could Be The Greatest Academic Weapon Of Our Time” states, “Angelina Cortez, a freshman microbiology major, believes that Rate My Professors is a great starting place for choosing professors for a semester.” While this system can have its inadequacies which some would argue are too big of a hassle to deal with, the website has a system of policing what students say in order to determine the legit responses from personal attacks. Students who dedicate themselves and constantly strive to do better in their education would largely benefit from this system. If public schools formed a website-or a paper version-of a teacher assessment students would get a better idea of how to take on the class and the best form of preparation. According to Thuận Sarzynski in the article “Students Should Evaluate Their Teachers”, “Students need to learn that success exists thanks to an accumulation of mistakes and feedback.” This shows that it is a vital part for students, although sometimes immature, to teach them how people become better. While one may argue that …show more content…
This would come into effect because while students do have the ability to report issues to staff, they do not always feel comfortable doing so. An anonymous way to evaluate the way an educator approaches class time would give diffident, soft spoken students an opportunity to bring up issues they may not feel confident enough telling an administrator themselves. This also opens the opportunity for all students to feel heard and like the staff values their opinion. In 2009 the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation “...conducted a study on the impact of student evaluations in measuring educational success and discovered that student feedback on teachers is extremely effective in improving classroom strengths and weaknesses for grades K-12” (Belrose). Students need to feel that their opinion on the operation of the school they attend matters. Currently, students' opinions may get pushed to the back burner unless there is enough repetition of an issue to form a solution. With annual teacher evaluations, the opinion of students can be heard and sorted through in order to solve problems throughout the
Students have started expecting good grades for mediocre work, knowing that the professors are under an obligation to give in to the way the rest of college professors grade. Harvey Mansfield, says that according to the american education system, grading strictly is ‘cruel and dehumanizing’ and affects the student's self esteem. The author says how he thinks that a reason professors have opted into a lenient grading scale is to spare their students self esteems and feelings. I wonder, if students don’t learn how to cope with a critique from a professor on an assignment how are these students going to cope in the real world with criticism from coworkers or authority figures. Not only do these students suffer from self esteem issues they are not being challenged enough and suffer from laziness and lack an incentive to achieve
This year’s StayClassy fundraising initiative was record-setting. The State Fundraising initiative was able to raise $111,211 surpassing its goal and breaking records. This was primarily due to matching grants and strong dedication from JSA student leaders. It was a grassroots effort with many individual contributions under $50. Next year, I hope to further improve the State Fundraising initiative on StayClassy and set new records.
Throughout my years in school I have encountered many teachers who have given up on students. They see one small failure as an excuse to stop trying to help. I don't want to become these teachers when I enter the field. I want to enter the classroom in the mindset of Jay Erskine Leutze. I will never give up on my students, and in turn I hope to incite them to reach for their goals in this manner.

The effort needs to focus on every child and their needs. In his work as an education guru, Robert Marzano offers guidance that could lead us toward curriculum and instruction that celebrate student learning and achievement, but more importantly, growth. Formal assessments are good if they reflect points in the students journey, not as a one and done grade (Marzano, 2013). Formal assessments for students should only represent points on a performance scale. Marzano noted that "characteristics of sound feedback" include that it should be frequent, give students a clear picture of their progress and how they might improve, and provide encouragement.
This sort of influence is what reassures students that they don't have any power and gives teachers authority over students which creates a relationship that is unhealthy for both student and teacher. The teacher only expects the students to work as told, and students don’t enjoy the work which causes some students to disregard pursuing higher education. In the majority of cases, Teachers lack the passion to teach. For example, Rio Vista Elementry school is a school that Ashley attended, and a review left by a parent exuberates
Assessments are a teacher’s tool that builds a profile on student’s growth and are the “tell-tell” detectors that provide the with teacher information on a student who may need additional services in and beyond the
CINCINNATI – No matter how good a scout is, or how advanced analytics become, there will always be an element of crapshoot in the draft, an inevitable by-product of trying to project what young men aged 18-22 will become three or four years down the line. That’s how Mike Trout, arguably the best player on the planet, lasts until pick No. 25 in 2009, selected right after Jared Mitchell and Randal Grichuk. At the time he played for a small high school in New Jersey and hadn’t really been tested in any prominent showcase, allowing the Los Angeles Angels to basically steal him that low.
This is a benefit that would significantly help the students. Without it students may be struggling with a topic and the teachers are not even aware. By looking at the scores and talking with the previous teachers they can determine what might be the best way to teach the students. This leads to the next benefit, teachers can begin a new year knowing how much each student already knows. Knowing where each student lies is beneficial because the teacher is then able to focus
So when a teacher is being rude it can be upsetting and you will be offended and that is not a good feeling. If we could vote on our teachers that issue would not happen. I am for this idea because some teachers are rude or use confusing teaching methods. The reasons we should be able to vote is because some people prefer certain teachers, some teacher use a teaching method that can be fairly confusing and or hard to understand to some students. If a child could vote on their teachers it would make them more happy and when a child is happy it increases their ability to focus and learn.
Not only children learn from teachers, teachers also need to learn from children. A successful teacher is willing to learn. Teachers know that they are encouraged to learn for lifetime and not just for a short time as teacher is a life-long learner. Teacher not only gives knowledge to children and also gains knowledge when they
Allowing students to evaluate their teachers, will give teachers an incentive to improve on their teaching skills. If teachers know that they are going to be evaluated by their students, they will begin to work twice as hard due to the incentives given to them. For example, a teacher who is lazy and enthusiastic about their job will come to the realization that if they don’t step up their game, they can be terminated and replaced. Essentially, this will lead to students receiving a higher quality of education. As a result,
They lack the indication of students’ knowledge as they are only a depiction of their effort. Absences, laziness, and disengagements are just a few of the factors of why grades are a poor representation of students’ intellectual capacity. While others may argue that grades motivate them, it is not genuinely correct since grades encourage
Feedback is a significant element in determination of education quality as well as in effective learning where it portrays the learning outcomes for students and the successes for the tutors. There are many aspects that concern educationists with regards to feedback but the relationship between perspectives of learning as well as teaching and feedback stands as the most important among them. Feedback should be conveyed in different modes in a learning environment but whatever mode chosen creates room for dialogue between the tutor and students. Therefore, it is only through feedback that the student engagement relationship with the feedback as well as the tutors’ perceptions of learning, teaching and assessment that such successes can be established.
While the students are viewed as empty vessels who receive knowledge form the teacher through teaching and direct
