“Joey, they’re making fun of your brother. They’re making fun of mike when his hair got burned off by the lightning. And they’re making fun of you for trying to take his shoes off at the field.” The quote shows that Erik is making fun off Joey for taking of Mike’s shoes after he was struck by lightning. The symbolic meaning is that Erik is yet again bullying Paul, and if Paul knew what was hidden underneath the sand, he would be mad about more than Erik just making fun of Joey.

“No fear, Mom. Show them no fear.” (page 296). In the novel, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, the protagonist, Paul Fisher, is going through many changes in his life after moving from Texas to Florida. Those changes include external ones, his friends and the environment around him, and internal ones, his views and opinions.
Part 1 is about the Fisher’s first experiences in Lake Windsor. In chapter 1 Paul and his mom drive from Houston to their new home in Tangerine. When Paul wakes up the first morning he smells smoke and his mom calls the fire department who tell them it’s just the muck fire. Later that day Paul and his mom tour Lake Windsor Middle School and Mrs. Fisher signs Paul up for an IEP because he is legally blind. When they are leaving one of Erik’s football practices they see a few soccer players and Paul meets Joey.
This did not allow Paul to play soccer for the middle school due to the IEP stating his vision problems. This infuriated Paul because he did not have the choice to play for his school’s soccer team. “Mom, you ruined my life at Lake Windsor Middle when you turned in that IEP. This is your chance to un-ruin it! Dad, I don’t mind if you
Luis’s death really changed Paul. It had a huge effect on him. Luis went to Erik, mad for what Erik did to Tino. Erik told Arthur, his friend, to hit Luis with a blackjack(pg 211). Consequently, Luis died a few weeks later.
This evidence tells that Paul helping two people do something wrong is a bad choice. As a result Paul gets expelled from Tangerine Middle School. In my opinion this was a really idiotic idea and Paul should never help people do something wrong ever
Paul is a cold-blooded killer, who displays “apathy.” He easily manipulates others. One can feel that he can’t be trusted. He makes for a good foe. Victor, at this point, isn’t as well understood regarding his motivation.
