Nurse’s role has a unique contribution in the interprofessional team. The interprofessional team are group of individuals in a various healthcare disciplines communicating and working together towards common goals to provide quality, individualized care for patients. Each team members from different profession and occupation collaborates, supports, enhances, and provides knowledge, skills, and attitudes to coordinate processes and interventions. Nurse’s offers specialized service to society to meet the health care needs of their clients.

Nursing practice requires both critical thinking and clinical reasoning. Critical thinking is the process of deliberate higher level thinking to define a patient’s problem, examine the evidence-based practice in caring for the patient’s, and make options in the delivery of optimal care. Critical thinking involves the demarcation of statements of fact, judgment, and opinion. The progression of critical thinking requires the nurse to think imaginatively, use reflection, and engage in logical thinking (Alfaro-LeFevre, 2013). Critical thinking is a vital skill needed for the recognition of patient’s problems and the execution of interventions to endorse effectual care outcomes (Bittencourt & Crossetti, 2012).

“Concept clarification is an important step in developing useful and useable knowledge in nursing science.” (Tofthagen, 2010). Within the home health field of nursing one of the major and most significant concepts is team work. Simply stated, concept analysis incorporates a method or approach by which concepts that are of interest to a discipline are examined in order to clarify their characteristics or attributes” (Cronin, 2010). Within a home health care team there are Registered Nurses, Physical Therapists, Home Health Aides, Medical Social Workers, Managed Care Coordinators, and Clinical Managers.

Philosophy of Nursing Everyone’s values and beliefs about the profession of nursing are all different. The four concepts of nursing are interrelated and all mean something different to every person, too. Throughout this paper, I will be reflecting on my values and beliefs about nursing through the four concepts while comparing them to a nursing theorist with views that are most similar to my own.

Every nurse, at some point, has questioned why something is done. Perhaps the procedure misuses time, is painful for the patient, or is unnecessarily unsafe for the nurse. Nurses fatigue is growing problem nurse face each day in the healthcare environment, and he can be caused by long hours, sleep deprivation, and possibly by accepting extra assignments can be dangerous for both nurses and patient. These inadequacies can result in major implications for the health and safety of registered nurses and can compromise patient care which can lead to fatalities. (American Nurses Association, 2014). In my experience, being fatigued from working much 12-hour shifts consecutively was very difficult as I felt extremely tired, resulting in lack of focus, missing important details during the handing over the process with impaired cognitive functioning. This I found was detrimental to the patients and myself as it impedes quality and has a deleterious effect on patient safety.

Giving care to a patient is not a straightforward process because a patient is made up of advanced systems. Symptoms and the severity of a disease process are dependent on a particular patient, and it may not always be uniform from patient to patient. Because of this, nurses must be able to use their knowledge appropriately to help a patient. Nurses use techniques, such as Evidence Based Practice, in order to integrate new and advanced knowledge into their patient care (Canada, 2016). By exercising evidence based practice, nurses effectively seek knowledge, take experience from past situations, and apply this intelligence to best give patient care (Canada, 2016).

Thus, critical thinking is something that is self-regulatory and purposeful judgment, a reflective, reasoning an interactive method for making judgment regarding what to do or believe in. from nursing perspective, critical thinking is the cognitive engine which drives the critical judgment and knowledge development in nursing (Meunier, 2003). The experimental model for reflective decision making is mainly grounded and matched from holistic clinical contexts and holistic patient centered care where it is delivered. This needs nurses to apply wide range of practical, observational, emotional and interpersonal skills, that is not restricted to scientific research and theory whereas applicable to patient care. Such holistic observation of reflective decision making is often supported from multiple intelligence theory (Gardner, 1987), that mainly identified spatial-visual, linguistic, logical-mathematical, intrapersonal and interpersonal forms, bodily-kinesthetic and musical-auditory intelligence forms completing wide range of skills.

I think the importance of showing others in the organization that they can depend on me no matter the situation, is a great way to build trust. I think it is important for people to know that my word is good and I back my word up with actions. By following through on my commitments I will build a trusted team where people know they matter and that they can count on me. Being dependable is of high importance; if people cannot depend on me, they will never truly trust me as a leader. Competency I believe competency is a vital value to leading an effective group.
