“Sisters” to most people would mean girls who share the same parents, but with sorority girls, “sisters” are the members in your sorority who share a bond between each and every one of them. I am a member of Delta Zeta sorority, I joined at the University of West Georgia but still feel the bond between me and my sorority sisters. Sisterhood means the world to the girls in sororities and it is an extraordinary thing to behold despite the fact that it may mean something else entirely to everyone else. In Sorority Life: The True Meaning of Sisterhood, they state, “Sisterhood is more than the letters which we wear on/around campus – it’s something much greater, something sacred & treasured,” and that couldn’t be any truer. Sisters value and support each other no matter the situation, they help each other with homework and help achieve goals together, but most of all it’s about knowing somebody will always have your back. Did you imagine these people and associate them with a particular group found on college campuses? Sometimes these stereotypes and and many other stigmas are associated with people in Greek Life. However, ASU’s Panhellenic Association (PHA) holds the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities on this campus to a higher standard, and the actions of these sororities shed light on some of the false stereotypes associated with them.

For example, both my sisters chose not to take their academics seriously and as a consequence, they were not accepted into their preferred college. I on the other, aspired to excel in academics and achieve my goal of attending Texas A&M University. Cheerleaders are the main supporters of their athletic teams, winning or losing. They have to cheer and chant along with getting the fans on their feet to cheer with them. College gives the choice of coed or all girls if they have both. High schools have a JV and varsity. Having these kind of teams gives people goals and can insure that each team will be successful.
While I didn’t know much about it at the time, my sisters were members of the Sigma Phi Omega at Cal State Long Beach. The dedication to the organization was intensive from watching them leave early for class to coming home late at night to staying up late to study and the cycle repeats.

My sister Shermiah Burton has gone to two different schools the first one was SUSCC which she graduated, now she goes to Point University she currently enrolled there now. I look up to my sister in so many different ways she is hard-working and devoted in everything she does. She likes to help any and everyone. When a sorority holds a formal it costs approximately $10,000 so a good portion of the dues we pay are for the events we hold.
