Transition To Teaching Styles

I had to leave all of my friends and favorite teachers. I went from Cloverdale to Taylor’s Crossing Public Charter School. I went there for fifth and sixth grade then I changed again and came to Rocky Mountain. Coming back to the district was a little hard but most of my friends recognized me and all I really had to do was get used to the schedules and routine. I have enjoyed all three of the schools

The first teaching lesson for a semester seems to be the most nerve wrecking experience, for me. This semester in Uteach 1202, Stephen Kolb and I, Janecia Hagood taught Dr. Won 7th grade Life science class at Blackmon Road Middle School. We had a great time teaching the students about the dichotomous key. Overall, some lesson intentions were met, some aspects of the lesson were better than others, and we got feedback for improvements.

I was born in New York City when it was still a slave state. I am 18 years of age and have just started attending a university close to where I live. I live in a small residence that is walking distance from the school. The school I attend is quite large and filled with many classrooms, professors, and students. The few people I have encounters are friendly enough and it has not taken me very long to become accustomed to the busy life of a student.

Over the course of that semester we struggled with some of the more challenging concepts

Mrs. Lallemand says that adjusting to new teachers can be one of the biggest challenges students face. “It may take some time to adjust to new methods, expectations, or routines,” said Mrs. Lallemand.

A few years ago I moved out of my hometown and ended up attending a new school. The new school was much nicer than my old one. It was freshly rebuilt with brand-new floors. The whole place looked more modern than the old-fashioned building I used to go to. At the new school, the people dressed and acted differently.

It was a far cry from the bustling city I had grown up in. My parents enrolled me in a local school, and I soon found myself in a classroom filled with kids

Although not every move was easy, I soon started enjoying it and looked forward to learning something new about a different place. Therefore, when my father informed me that we were going to relocate to USA, I was on top of the moon. I looked forward to a new environment and new experiences. Despite all the different moves, I found my relocation to Maryland one of the hardest. I soon realized that the schooling was very different and people even talked differently.

I realize that I’m not the only one facing this subject. I felt a disadvantage at first but realized some people have never been outside of their state. They either didn’t get the opportunity or don’t have the funds to travel. Going from state to state every couple of years was tiring because my family and I had to go through the packing and moving process so often. However, It was inspirational for me to get educated and get involved in a new environment.

New school, making new friends, and getting used to the school. My sophomore year I transferred from Shaw High School. I really didn’t want to go here I would have preferred to stay at shaw, but I couldn’t. Sophomore was my worst year of high school. When I first started Collinwood High School, they didn’t have my transcript over from Shaw so for a month I had to take ninth grade classes.

Have you ever felt uncomfortable, nervous, and confused ? These are all the things I felt moving to a new school. I had no idea if I would gain friends or if anyone would like me. Maybe if I had a tour around the new school before my first day I would have not been so disorientated. Going from a one story school to a two story school was hard, having to look down every five seconds to make sure I was on the right hall, or if I was suppose to be upstairs or downstairs.

Awkward situations can arise if you do not know a teacher, principle, or other faculty names. Moving in the middle of the school year can be even more challenging for a young teen. Other students may be ahead or behind the transferred student depending on the way the instructor teaches the class, causing the teen to adjust to where the other students are in their studies. These transitions cause the teen to feel like school is redundant and boring. These students get careless with their school and may even settle for work that is not to their full potential.

It was first a great struggle to get around from class to class because of having more than one teacher, but I did the best I could to learn my way. After a few days of attending school during these days, and starting to get the hang of knowing my teachers, I began to notice the change in the assigned homework and classwork assignments.
