Final Paper The person I chose to interview for this final paper was my mother, Peggy. I am going to start with providing a brief social history on her. Peggy was born on October 29, 1940 to my grandparents, Marie and John. She is the second of six children, and was raised in Philadelphia.

• CG 4.1 How do you ensure that families are kept aware of what 's happening in their child 's daily/weekly life in your program? I make sure that families are kept aware of their child’s life on a daily and weekly basis by providing them with the information from their child’s day on a daily report. I also make sure that I communicate with them both positive and negative things are their child’s day. I want to keep a healthy relationship between myself and the child’s parents and to do so I need to communicate with them about their child’s day.

Introduction A famous film star, Katherine Hepburn once stated, “Death will be a great relief. No more interviews.” Even though Hepburn was probably interviewed too many times and asked many questions, most social workers must utilize the interview process to make assessments of their clients. An accurate assessment is critical and significant first step in the social work process.

The person I’ve chosen to interview is Li Juan Zhang. She is my mom and immigrated to the United States in 1993. The reason I chose my mom as my interviewee is because I felt it was important to know more about my mom’s history before I was born. Li was born on June 16, 1968 to the parents of Yigi Yu and Hui Lain Zhang. She has a younger brother named Yu Peng Zhang.

Sociology is defined as the scientific study of human life, social groups, whole societies and the human world as such. (Giddens & Sutton, 2013) Sociology covers a vast and diverse range of topics which include social institutions such as religion, education or family. Sociology uses different theories/perspectives to understand and explain the social world. Sociological perspectives include: functionalism, Marxism, feminism, symbolic interaction and post-modernism. A theory is a set of ideas which claim to explain how society or aspects of society work.

Families are said to constitute realities in which most of one’s attributes are constructed, based on the family interactions, beliefs, values as well as the behaviours that are seen in the specific families one is brought up into (Archer & McCarthy, 2007). However, even though most of one’s personal characteristics may be heavily influenced by their families; people do have a sense of individuality that makes them unique from any other person in the family (Becvar & Becvar, 2013). Therefore, one may argue that it is these differences that may cause misunderstandings in families.

After completing a family analysis and assessment with various models, I would like to reflect on how I can better utilize these tools in my future and gain a better understanding of family centered care. I will be using the Rolfe, Freshwater, & Jasper (2001) model to complete my reflection and weigh the pros and cons of assessing the family with the Calgary Family Assessment Model, the genogram, and the ecomap. I started making the genogram first, this was probably the most laborious part of the assignment. Getting used to the computer programming took the majority of the time. After the initial struggle to gain momentum, the project became much easier and the ecomap was created more naturally than the genogram.

Family theories have been used throughout the history of nursing to help guide patient care and provide the best patient outcomes. Certain theories may be more applicable to the specific patient encounter; however, each theory has benefits and drawbacks to their use. The purpose of this paper is to examine two selected theories, comparing their strengths and weaknesses. I will also discuss a theoretical family in relation to one theory, and how that theory can be best integrated into the care provided by an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN). Description of Theories

Before one can make a decision in determining whether the traditional family model is superior to the different types of families present in modern society, it is important to define what is meant by a traditional and non-traditional family. According to the dictionary, a traditional family includes a man, who takes the role of the husband, and a woman who takes the role of the wife, and one or more biological or adopted children. On the other hand, non- traditional families are defined as those including cohabitation, single parenthood and same sex families. All in all, traditional families have been seen to develop better rounded children, however, this model poses a detrimental threat towards society as a whole since this model persists in engraining the role of the woman as the primary homemaker. On the other hand, non-traditional families can be said to be better for society as the societal status quo is challenged encouraging tolerance, though the weakness remains that this model results in higher poverty and rate of delinquent children.

Cover Letter This essay made me do a lot of thinking about what family meant to me. There were a lot of words that came to mind but I came to the conclusion of only a few. There are SO many different definitions of family, love, support, etc.

Introduction In this case study, it analyse how the concept of family has changed in the past 20 years as it will be depicting modern family forms and past norms. It is important to look at how families have developed throughout the years up until the 21st century as we compare the two and elaborate on the difference and what makes it so significant. In this case study, it contrast and compare the television series Modern family which is a 21st century concept of family and The Simpsons which was adapted 27 years ago and how things have changed with family dynamics and what is the norm now which was not the norm years ago.

Bowen family systems theory is used for understanding both family emotional and relationship processes (Knauth, 2003). Kolbert, Crothers, and Field (2013) suggest that although there are few publications on Bowen family systems theory, it provides counsellors with a framework for clients, specifically with helping adolescents understand how their functioning and identity have been influenced by their family. Bowen’s differentiation of the self has been argued to be equivalent to identity, and an individual’s balance both togetherness and individuality within their family, family members are both borrowing and lending aspects of themselves between each other (Kolbert, Crothers, & Field, 2013).
