Wellness coaching is growing rapid over the years to help improve the quality of life and breaking old habits. It is becoming an active strategy in many therapeutic fields to be used to help with prevention, health promotion, and encouraging individuals to make a change for the better (Clark, 2013). Wellness coaching is based off positive psychology to help motivate and help people to reach their goals in their health (Collins, 2009). Wellness coaching focuses on the individual’s well-being and overall health by giving the individual support, motivation, and goals to get to where the individual wants to be (Grodzki & Allen, 2005). Wellness coaches are trained to help individuals to work towards his her goals that are focused on wellness and physical health (Nelson & Shckley, 2013). The wellness coach is able to narrow their field by focusing on prevention or helping people with existing health concerns (Grodzki & Allen, 2005). With narrowing it down with prevention or existing health illness, a wellness coach can focus on another topic with step-by-step programs, weight loss, and …show more content…
Wellness programs are to help the clients and be advocates for a healthy lifestyle change by using a coach for people who are struggling with being overweight (Bowles, Picano, Epperly, & Myer, 2006). When a client is ready to make a change in their life to helping with improving their quality of life to help with prevention or an existing health concern or illness he or she may want to seek a wellness coach. A wellness coach is able to sit down with the individual and listen to his or her needs to make sure the individual is in the right place. After the individual tells the wellness coach what he or she needs and if the individual is in the right spot that is when the wellness coach is able to become the coach of that
After reading several articles and verses I can see where you can cross the worldview and secular view of wellness. At face value the words that make up the definition seem to mean the same thing. The real difference is how wellness is achieved. Secular wellness is achieved through actions that are dependent on you. How you take care of yourself for example, exercise, diet and lifestyle.
I agree with you that the Cognitive Behavioral Frame of Reference and the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) approach are both excellent approaches to guide your wellness program. I used both of these approaches with my wellness program for adults with Schizophrenia or bipolar. I like how the Cognitive Behaviorial Frame of Reference encourage new behaviors by shaping, repetition, and reinforcement. I also like how MOHO looks at he individual as a whole. I believe by assisting the individual to identify triggers that caused their stress and anxiety is an excellent idea with your target population.
In utilizing the instructional strategy, based on the social cognitive theory - lecture, quiz, games, and brain storming, the function shifts to an instructor, teacher, manager, and administrator. The function also shifts to a consultant or resource person to all the other members of the team – the Dietitian/Nutritionist, the Licensed Vocational Nurse, and the Fitness Instructor. The role also involves acting as a communicator, reporter, and advocate for health to the community. In conclusion, the roles are much more and encompasses a wider range, as the health education specialist wears many hats in the bid to reduce incidence of childhood obesity and adult onset of type II diabetes in Vista
For example, a high quality performance maintaining healthy behaviors and better mental health. Contrary to this frustration of the basic needs that is correlated to less intrinsic motivation, more control motivation, and regulation are leaning towards extrinsic aspirations. This leads to worsening experiences, performance, and wellness, therefore a coach needs to use their abilities to move their client towards self determination i.e intrinsic
He goes there weekly and is a technology buff. Mr. Harris said he would like to make it a “smart house” meaning that every appliance would need a form of technology to work. Wellness Coach replied that sounds very interesting and it should be successful. Mr. Harris is in the action stage of his goals and those goals are as follows: Manage Depression: Mr. Harris is currently in the action stage of change when it comes to managing his depression.

I strongly value my health and believe that health is our greatest form of wealth. When one lives a healthy lifestyle, it means more opportunities to explore the world, build families, achieving anything the heart desires and conquering personal goals. The behavior change philosophy fits my personal philosophy of health education the most because it involves goal setting, behavioral contracts and self-monitoring to help foster the modification of an unhealthy habit. The behavior change philosophy is very important because change is a process, not an event. Self-efficacy and motivation are key factors in successful behavior changes.
The wellness of a human being has been broken down into five sections. These sections are: emotional wellness, intellectual wellness, physical wellness, social wellness and spiritual wellness. I think my strongest section for my personal wellness is my emotion, intellect and physical wellness. However, my weakest sections are social wellness and spiritual wellness. I believe that my emotional wellness is my strongest section.
The goal of coaching people is to motivate them. It is about being a good lifestyle coach so that you can lead by example. It would not do any good for a drug dealer to expound upon the evils of using drugs when he or she is pedaling narcotics. It takes living the life of a good person in order to show others how to live that same motivated
Eric Parsloe (1999, P. 8) defined coaching as “a process that enables learning and development to occur and thus performance to improve. To be successful a Coach requires knowledge and understanding of process as well as the variety of styles, skills, and techniques that are appropriate to the context in which the coaching takes place”. Coaching is a professional relationship that helps people meet great results in both lives personal and professional also helps to fill the gap
I learned throughout the course of this class that there are many components to maintaining a state of well being and that health and wellness aren’t the same thing. I came to understand better the multiple categories of wellness that compose the broad subject in general. We also discussed the various attributes of physical wellness that range from the strength of the heart to the flexibility of our joints. There was a great deal of information that came from this class that will be beneficial to have in the future as it gives multiple tips to keeping oneself in a state of homeostasis. Nutrition and stress management are also huge factors within the balance of things as well.
The reality, in my view, is that coaching has many similarities and overlaps with many of these interventions. Several papers have evaluated and discussed the nature of coaching
I wanted to teach wellness and health because I want to help people understand themselves and their body. My preferred path of teaching is to be a coach and a math teacher. I want to teach children how to take care of their bodies and how to live healthier lifestyles. My objective as a teacher is to put my students first and to be the big part of their lives and chooses. My students should expect that I have their best intentions in heart and will help them no matter what the circumstances.
Coaching can be used to combat some future conflict or problem before it goes out of hand. Individual often realizes they had problem and sort for a coach to assist them to facilitate their improvement. Coaches assist coachee, and provide effective solution to their problem which is known to them already. Individuals respond more when they come up with solutions themselves instead of the ones that were forcefully introduced to them by other people. Coaching has been viewed as advantageous approach by some organization to assist employees to discover and unlock their potentials and achieve them.
Next to health is wellness. On the other hand, wellness is an active process of being aware of and making choices towards a more successful existence. These are some of the dimension of health and wellness.
