What is success? According to the dictionary, it is “the fact that you have achieved something that you want and have been trying to do or get; the fact of becoming rich or famous or of getting a social position, etc”. Success seems a simple word, yet this plain word renders a large amount of individuals pay relentless endeavors. Remembering the CCTV host Wang Zhi said that success is relative, and everyone has its own standard of success. For many people, success means money, statue, reputation, and so on. I, nevertheless, hold that success not merely means money, statue, and reputation; it means that pursues what you wholehearted want, then making your pursuit is accessible, and enjoys this process.

The Dark Truth In the contemporary world, a person’s success is usually determined by their job and because of this social norm, most of one’s life is spent attempting to live up to this expectation. Individuals possess vast dreams to hold highly ranked jobs and be content while doing so. Gladwell’s Argument in Outliers Success is a concept that is constantly altered and has a different meaning from person to person. The stereotypical definition of success would be someone who has a high-paying job or is in the upper-class. Malcolm Gladwell, the author of Outliers: The Story of Success, approaches the concept of success in a different and unique way. Gladwell discusses how opportunities, cultural legacy, and hard work all coincide with each other to produce real success. He uses mostly logic and multiple unrelated anecdotes to support and provide evidence for his statements.
