There are many women who have been raped and it can be argued that ethically they have the right to have an abortion as they did not choose to get pregnant, but in Christianity’s view a life is a life, regardless of how it occurred. Christians are said to be apart of the pro-life arguments (Ridder, Karen. "Abortion: 5 Pro-Life Arguments Made by Christians.) Abortion runs counter to most Christian beliefs. Even those denominations that support the right, believe that abortion is most-often not the right choice. Even though christians are pro-life, because christians feel that they are committing a sin once the child is terminated. Every life matters and if you go against the word of God you are going against God himself. No matter how a female
If we are able to put a concrete value on different human life, then that opens so many other doors such as racism, ableism, ageism, and genocide. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “in 2013, 664,435 legal induced abortions were reported to CDC from 49 reporting areas. The abortion rate for 2013 was 12.5 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15–44 years, and the abortion ratio was 200 abortions per 1,000 live births”. For whatever reason, those 664,435 unborn children were aborted, and whatever life they
Practicing abortions are very controversial topic. According to the article “America Deserves Better”, it states abortion held center stage in a major national debate throughout the 21 century (Goldkamp 42). Some religions consider it a horrendous act. It is unacceptable in religions, no matter the reason. Society can label women who seek abortions as “sinful, selfish, dirty, irresponsible, heartless, or murderous” according to “The Bad Mother: Stigma, Abortion and Surrogacy” (Abrams 181).
While pro-choice Christians recognize the value of human life, they also believe that women’s autonomy and agency should be respected. In Mark Chapter 12 of New American Standard Bible, Jesus discusses how one should not only love God with all of one’s “heart, […] soul, […] mind, […] and strength,” but one should “love [one’s] neighbor as [oneself]” (Mark Chapter 12). Christians who support abortion rights frequently use the idea of “loving [one’s] neighbor” as evidence for their position because they view abortion as a personal decision that should be made by women while considering her own specific circumstances and her relationship with God. They view this as a personal choice that should not be influenced by outside influences such as government or religious leaders.
If someone were to ask your opinion on abortion, what would you say? Would you say that you are pro-life, meaning that you support the legal ability to abort their developing baby in the mother’s womb. Would you say that you are pro-choice, meaning that you support the legal ability to have the option to abort if you were to have an unwanted, accidental, or health related pregnancy. Many religions have their own ideals on when it is considered that a fetus is alive, when it is morally okay to have an abortion, and if it is a female’s choice. No matter what anyone decides for an embryo to be considered alive and immoral to have an abortion for the entire country, everyone still has their own ideals and morals that cannot be eradicated for everyone to follow one mindset.
Part 1: Abortion: Biblical stance for pro-life Several passages throughout the Bible support the pro-life position on abortion. First the focus will be on the relationship that God has with the unborn. In Jeremiah 1:4-5 God calls to Jeremiah proclaiming “before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.” These two verses focus on the relationship God has with human beings by showing how He knows them before birth.
With almost half the nation divided among their views, abortion remains one of the most controversial topics in our society. Since Roe v. Wade, our views in society as well as following court cases have been progressing toward the woman’s right to choose. The precedent set by Roe v. Wade made the Supreme Court acknowledge that it cannot rule specifically when life begins and it also affirms that it is the woman’s right to have an abortion under the 14th Amendment. In the 1st Amendment, the Establishment Clause forbids the government from passing laws “which aid one religion, aid all religions, or prefer one religion over another”. Many Christian pro-lifers use their religious beliefs to dispute when life begins.
In the United States, abortion laws began to appear in the 1820s, forbidding abortion after the fourth month of pregnancy. Through the efforts primarily of physicians, the American Medical Association, and legislators, most abortions in the US had been outlawed by 1900. Illegal abortions were still frequent, though they became less frequent during the reign of the Comstock Law which essentially banned birth control information and devices.
Some women disagree with the idea, while others agree. Some religions believe it is a sin to have an abortion. Abortion
Often in many religions a child is a gift from god and there is a purpose for evert being. By having an abortion are we playing against god? Abortion can also be dangerous and leave someone with health complications and a lifetime of potential emotional
Abortion Abortion is the ending of pregnancy by abolishing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus. Abortion is a very controversial topic, for example, one side of this topic believes abortion is cruel and committing murder, while the other side believes that since the fetus or embryo isn 't developed enough to be considered a living human being yet, that abortion is not commiting murder. Despite this information, there is a lot more to abortion than the opinion of it being “right” or “wrong”. According to “Students for life” who are pro life, about 1 million abortions are executed each year in the US. That data adds up to 22% of pregnancies ending in abortion.
Abortion Abortion is one of the most talked about issues right now. Everyone seems to have an opinion, a strong one. This is still a debate, even though in 1973, the Supreme Court ruled that the procedure is a fundamental right in the case Roe v. Wade (Abortion ProCon.org, 1). Abortion is the ending of a pregnancy before you have gone full term, which means that the embryo cannot survive on its own.
Childhood no longer stood as a choice, as the various methods Ceausescu utilized to enforce his Decree-such tactics ranging from the use of a secret police force to taxation and forced gynecological exams-resulted in unwanted children destined for institutionalization. Those who did not immediately adhere to the stipulations of Ceausescu’s decree received a “childlessness tax”, (Nelson 46). To make life increasingly difficult for any opponents of the Decree, the Romanian government altered the conditions under which one could undergo an abortion by raising the minimum age to women over 45 and mothers of five or more children (Nelson 46). Should such measures fail, Ceausescu’s secret police force, the securitate, closely monitored the lives
This article is about the UK’s abortion providers having anti-abortion protestors surrounding their buildings protesting against abortion (Forbes). Some of these protestors were even getting aggressive to the patients leaving the building even if they had a kid with them and its quoted in the article that “Women felt it was an invasion of healthcare privacy” (Forbes). The article also mentions how the women didn’t care who was outside the building like what group or anything it was the presence that bothered them so much (Forbes). This is true for myself too because when I go to planned parenthood to get my birth control I have been harassed mostly by men protesting and had one knock on my car, which I threatened to call the police and
Not only is abortion not safe, but it is not holy either. When the Bible talks about a pregnant woman, it says “with child.” It never says, “with fetus.” "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations" (Jer. 1.5). In this, God is saying that he knew Jeremiah before he was born (Melton, James 1).
(Tanner) Pro-choice defenders also say that it is the woman 's right to choose to have the baby or not, forgetting the baby 's rights. The life of a human being begins at the moment of conception, and it is not the fetus´s fault if the mother wasn 't ready to have a baby or if the situation in which baby was conceived wasn 't ideal. For example, if the baby is conceived by rape, the baby should not pay the consequences of other people, he or she has not done anything wrong .”Compassion for the mothers is extremely important, but it is never
