Argumentative Essay: Gun Rights In America

In the Bill of Rights I am using the Second Amendment because that is the right to bear arms. This relates because back when this amendment was passed the Government realized that people need arms to protect themselves and to hunt. Know we are fighting to keep these arms just like how the colonies had to fight to get this amendment passed. This amendment was passed so that people could protect themselves from harm and danger. This amendment should not be tampered with because people need these guns for uses that benefit us.

The topic of gun control and firearm regulation has been subject to heated debate for a long while. Both sides have potent arguments, however the core of this issue ultimately boils down to the constitution itself. More specifically the second amendment. This argument quickly becomes quite complicated because gun control and firearm regulation concerns not only the right of citizens, but more importantly the safety of citizens. The second amendment helps to guarantee an imperative right belonging to all citizens.

Americans keep guns in the house for very good reasons, that is to protect themselves from intruders and burglars or even for hunting. The weapon makes people feel more secure and at ease at night in the house. That sense of protection is why every household in America wants to own some source of weapon, especially a handgun.

Mass shootings and suicides by firearm have been a growing concern for many people living in the U.S. Numerous people making the argument that there should be more gun control. There have been many reported issues of mass shootings both in schools and in the public, making it a hot button issue. Proponents argue that, if the government strictly controls the ownership of guns, such tragedies can be prevented. Most Americans have an obsession with guns because the law allows them to do so. Therefore, they are always ready to scoff at anyone trying to control gun ownership.

Just yesterday, the presidential candidates, Democratic Congressman Matthew Santos and Republican Senator Arnold Vinick squared off in a live debate moderated by Forrest Soyer. During Vinick’s opening statement, the candidates decide to forgo the negotiated rules in favor of a less constricting debate format. The two address multiple current topics, some of which include: gun control, illegal immigration, tax cuts, health care, and foreign debt relief. Gun control has become an upfront issue due to increases in mass shootings. Vinick believes otherwise.

Since the begining of America, the Founding Fathers wrote the strong-standing Bill of Rights with amendments to protect the country that had just recently won their freedom, but one amendment has been the top theme of controversies for centuries. Gun laws offend the Bill of Rights in so many ways and they prove ineffective. Gun Laws are relevant due to thousands of deaths and self-protection. The argument goes on but without guns there is militia, one of the main intents of the Second Amendment. These simple rules can reduce deaths, proven by millions of influential people.

Looking at the issue of gun rights, I am a firm believer that this right should strictly be a state issue. There are various factors that can play a great role in the culture of each state. Things such as population density, geography, morality, childhood, political status, and religion impact states and the way they function. If each state shared the same law related to gun rights, it would ultimately defeat the goal of allowing each state to create laws based on their culture, and would most likely become a federal law, limiting the right of some. Being born and raised in Wyoming, I see no issues with all citizens having the right to bear arms.

To begin with, the second amendment of the US constitution gives citizens the right to carry or possess a gun. As a result, gun violence in America has increased drastically over the years due to guns being utilised in a reprehensible manner and people getting wedged in the crossfire, hence why stringent law enforcements need to be put in place regarding guns in the US. “Since 1982, there have been at least 61 mass murders carried out with firearms; in most cases, the killers had obtained their weapons legally”.
