Gun control is necessary, and delay means more death and horror.” Just like everything else, being able to own arms comes with its pros and cons. Christmas [2003] in a leafy, upscale Chicago suburb, home owner Hale DeMar used his handgun to shoot a burglar. Trouble is , Wilmette years ago outlawed his handgun to shoot a burglar. That means it was illegal for him to defend himself. The second amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (US Const. amend. II). Those in favor of the second amendment, believe that arms are used for protection, dangerous situations, and sports.
The second amendment states “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Us americans don't need to “bear arms.” Some may say that many people use them to hunt but there are many other weapons you can use to hunt with as well as protecting yourself from danger. People have the right to bear arms for protection, or even just the pleasure of hunting and recreational activity. With the recent events involving firearms and mass shootings, people are skeptical whether to increase or decrease gun laws. Americans have a constitutional right to own handguns and stricter laws and licensing will not effectively save lives.
For advocates of the second amendment, the right to bear arms applies to all Americans for self-protection against dangerous criminals. Criminals will always have access to weapons, therefore citizens need self-protection using firearms. John Lott, in “More Guns, Less Crime,” explains that crime fell by 10 percent in Texas in the year after a law had passed letting citizens carry weapons ( Martin 10). This evidence shows that if more citizens were armed for example, the citizens in Texas, less crime would occur in America. This makes us wonder why people can be so defensive over something like a gun that is so dangerous and has lead to a lot of deaths in the American society. Gun control is essential in our society today because it will help prevent unnecessary shootings and crime rate Gun control will play a major part in the decrease of the crime and murder rate. Therefore, in my point of view, guns should be totally controlled and regulated by the government. Looking at the issue of gun rights, I am a firm believer that this right should strictly be a state issue. There are various factors that can play a great role in the culture of each state. Things such as population density, geography, morality, childhood, political status, and religion impact states and the way they function. If each state shared the same law related to gun rights, it would ultimately defeat the goal of allowing each state to create laws based on their culture, and would most likely become a federal law, limiting the right of some. Being born and raised in Wyoming, I see no issues with all citizens having the right to bear arms.
