Adnan Paper Adnan Syed was eighteen years old when he was accused of murdering his ex girlfriend Hae. Hae was the same age as Adnan and they attended the same school. There are many pieces of evidence for whether he is guilty or not. These pieces of evidence can be both positive and negative in his case. This was the main storyline of the podcast Serial, by Sarah Koenig. Overall, the evidence leads me to believe that Adnan is guilty. Adnan Syed must be guilty for these three main reasons, the map with Leakin Park in Hae’s car had his handprint on it, he had wrote “I’m going to kill” in a note to her, and that he lies multiple times and claims not to remember anything about that day. The first evidence that makes me believe Adnan is guilty is that map had his handprint on it inside of Hae’s car. This is significant for multiple reasons. For example, in order to figure out …show more content…
For example, Adnan was questioned about whether he asked Hae for a ride home. To one officer, he claimed that he did do so. But, he said she wasn’t able to because she had to pick up her little cousin. Later in the investigation, Adnan had told a different officer that he did not even ask her for a ride. This seems like an extremely large slip in his story. He clearly lied to one of the officers, which is why he is guilty. Lying to an officer about something that significant, especially in this case is a big deal. Throughout all of the time that this investigation took place, Adnan lied to the police several more times. Although, some of those lies were not as weighted as that last one was. Most of the time, when people lie they try to at least make more of an effort to cover it up. Adnan made his big lie clear as day for everyone to see. This lie puts him at fault when being determined whether he should be guilty or not. In my opinion, it is extremely hard to breeze past that lie like it is
Adnan’s trial was not a fair trial. One of the first questions come to mind, “What about the physical evidence?” No physical evidence was brought up, other than the star witness, Jay. Police has not been investigating this seriously, yes, there were some fingerprints affiliated to Adnan on Hae’s map
If you’re going to murder your ex-girlfriend you should probably find a better way of covering it up. Adnan is a senior in a high school in Baltimore, Maryland where his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee was reported lost on January 13th, 1999 and found in Leakin Park on February 9th. Adnan Syed was found guilty of first degree murder, the main witness in the case was his thought to be best friend Jay, who we later learned felt like Adnan wasn’t a close friend. The reasons that Adnan murdered Hae Min Lee all add up, Adnan has a motive having Hae being of different culture he put a lot on the line to date her, Jay claims to have seen Adnan with Hae in the trunk of a car that Adnan had and, Adnan also had no alibi to where he was at the time of Hae’s
Nobody was rushing to convict Adnan specifically. The detectives were not simply picking and choosing evidence that looked bad for Adnan, they were doing their jobs
Wrongfully Convicted Rumors, Secrets, and Drama, all typical aspects of the high school experience. Normally, the current relationship status of a track star would not matter to any adult. What isolates this instance is the outcome isn’t a messy break up and some tears shed, but instead a murder. Hae Min Lee went missing on January 13th, 1999. Six weeks later her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed was convicted of murder.
One reason I think Adnan is innocent is because Jay is acting guilty. It makes sense because he
There are many interview with Jay, Adnan, and other of his friends but who really is saying the truth to this case. The question everyone's asking is Jay saying the truth, he said everything he knew according to him, he didn’t stay quiet he went ahead and said it. Jay is blaming Adnan for Hae’s murder but in the other hand Adnan said the he didn’t do it. That he would never do a cruel thing such as that, he respects his family, his religious, and Hae. My confusion and my question is did Adnan really do it or not?
They never used his alibi Asia, stating that he was in the library during the time of the murder. The DNA found on Haes Lee's body was never tested, because it cost to much to do so. The lack of evidence was a big issue with the case. Looking back the only thing the state had on Adnan was Jay's stories. Jay is not a very reliable source.
Using the fact that Adnan led a 'dual life', he is easily found guilty since everyone already thinks of him as shady since they found out he did drugs. But anyone who knew Adnan, knew he wasn't shady. " He was like the community's golden child." , "He was an honor roll student, volunteer EMT. He was on the football team.
Adnan was 18 years old, a senior at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore, Maryland. His ex- girlfriend, now deceased, was also 18 years old and was a senior who attended the same school. Both were in a magnet program at the school and began dating their junior year. Adnan couldn’t have killed Hae because he cared about her. He says that his love for Hae was “in the way of high school love” (Koenig Ep.
Another way was that Adnan was a duplicitous liar and played a “good Muslim” at home. Koenig then later finds out that a “potential alibi” was left out of Adnan’s case since it conflicted with Adnan’s own alibi despite him not remembering what happened on that day. In other words, it was too late since he had already been
This was quite the battle for Adnan Syed, a young oriental male who was accused of murdering his long-time girlfriend in January of 1999. Hae-Min Lee, Adnan’s girlfriend, went missing in January and her body was found buried in a local park 3 weeks later. Adnan Syed is innocent of killing Hae-Min Lee because of three reasons: Cristina Gutierrez, Adnan’s lawyer, failed to put him in a position to win the trial, Jay is not an effective witness, and the window of time does not match up. Adnan is not at fault
I think that there is a lot more evidence that shows that Adnan is guilty, but one of the ones that I think is one of the most important is Jay's
Imagine having the feelings of your former significant other be the reason you live or die. The thought of that is mind boggling and you would stop at nothing to not let it happen. The murder of female victims is most often perpetrated within the framework of an intimate relationship. Usually, homicides against women are carried out by their male partners, at what turns out to be the end of a trajectory of escalating abuse of dominance. That’s what happened to Hae Min Lee, she was murdered by Adnan Syed out of his jealousy over his ex-girlfriend’s relationship with her co-worker.
She states “A year after Adnan was arrested and the case came to trial, Jay walked up to the witness stand. There’s a moment when Adnan muttered something to him” (45). By Adnan calling Jay pathetic he showed that he couldn’t believe Jay would rat him out. This incident shows that Adnan is a liar and is mad at Jay for going to the police, showing that he is guilty. Even after controlling himself through the whole case he snapped when he saw the man that betrayed him.
Of course, many people think Adnan Syed is guilty of murdering Hae by contradicting himself, by saying, “I am in here for my own mistakes.” He might have been on the edge of confessing his guilt until Sarah caught this and asked what he meant, and quickly recovers from his mistake. Adnan also slips his tongue by saying that he wants people to only look at the evidence, and not his personality. If I were convicted of a crime I would certainly like to have my personality be looked at, if I were innocent. So they could see what good I have done.
