Adnan Syed Have you ever got accused of something you didn’t do but it looks like you did? Well, that’s exactly what happened to Adnan. In the Mystery Murder Serial podcast by Sarah Koenig, it explains multiple different stories about Hae Min Lee. It tells the story through different people's perspectives. Jay was one of Adnan’s friends, they did drug deals and whatnot that kind of stuff. Adnan dated Hae for a while then broke up and she found someone she loved dearly named Don. Jay was dating Hae’s best friend Stephanie. Jay and Adnan had a weird kind of friendship; they weren’t close or anything, they just smoked weed together and did other drugs. Would Adnan ask Jay to help him bury his ex-girlfriend's body or would that be a little too …show more content…
Why is that? For example, in Crime Junkie it says that “Don was at work the night the cops called him and he didn’t answer his phone call from the cops till 2 am that next morning”. Don was avoiding the cops and he didn’t want to get a hold of them. Keep this in mind that he worked at a Lenscrafters store and it didn’t stay open till 2 am. In the Crime Junkie podcast, it also says that “Don kept changing his time card and believe it or not his mom and stepmom were his bosses at both places he worked at”. Don could get around things and avoid certain things he didn’t want involved in. The cops only looked at Adnan but why not the older more recent …show more content…
In Serial it tells the audience how “Jay kept changing his story over and over again from yeah we went to a national park and smoked weed to No we went to Leakin Park smoked weed then we buried her body”. Why would Jay keep changing his story? Was he trying to protect someone or just himself? In Serial it also says that “Jay knew where the car was and there was a green patch of grass where it was found”. Jay knew things that he wasn’t telling the cops or he was simply hiding something. Wouldn’t it be better to just tell the truth rather than make up a whole bunch of different stories? Some might think that Adnan was the cause of Hae Min Lee’s death because he was her ex-boyfriend and he had a motive to kill her. However, the night Hae went missing Adnan still tried to make sure she was ok and hung out with people that kept trying to check up on her. For example, in Serial it says “Adnan called her house 3 times to check to see if she was okay because she didn’t pick up her cousin that day”. He cared about her well-being and he tried to make sure she was okay after she didn’t pick up her cousin from school as she always does. Adnan cared for her even though they broke
Adnan said he didn’t know what he did that day and that it felt like a normal day it being six weeks who couldn’t blame him. Except for the part of how could this be an ordinary day, Adnan claimed to be very close with Hae how would you not remember the day of her disappearance. This day should be engraved in your brain for awhile at least six weeks I would say. Adnan’s only claims was to be with Asia, Jay’s girlfriend and Hae’s friend at the time and she was nowhere to be found during the court hearings and investigation.
Jay provides a plethora of information for the state that is just credible enough to ensure that Adnan would be convicted and not himself. Jay protecting himself in court is why Adnan receives such an unfair
Adnan Syed is innocent, there is no real proof that he convicted the murder beyond one man’s testimony. No one besides Jay remembers Adnan ever being obsessive or angry with Hae after the breakup. In Hae’s diary, she describes Adnan as the best
In Episode 1, host Sarah Koenig highlights how the prosecution's timeline of events is riddled with inconsistencies and relies heavily on the memory of key witnesses, including Jay Wilds. Jay's changing story is documented in Episode 8, where he admits to providing false statements during the trial. It's worth noting that the prosecution's case against Adnan Syed relied heavily on circumstantial evidence,
In this testimony, Jay incriminates Adnan by saying he was shown Hae’s body and made to help Adnan bury her. Cell phone records and other testimonies corroborated Jay’s version. However, during the multiple retellings of his testimony, Jay’s story had several inconsistencies. During the trial and his interviews, Jay’s testimonies have wildly different versions of where he was shown the body, whether Adnan planned the murder ahead of time, where the murder took place, as well as many others details. Jay was also told by the detectives that, if he failed to incriminate Adnan, he would be the primary suspect in the case.
Adnan and the victim, Hae, started dating in 1998. The two were in love but had to
Additionally, Jay's testimony is largely uncorroborated, meaning that there is no hard evidence to prove his claims. Jay's story about Adnan murdering was so widely believed because of the way it was told. Jay provided detailed and vivid descriptions of the events as well as convincing details, which made his story more believable. The fact that he was a friend of Adnan and had knowledge of the events made it even more convincing. Furthermore, the prosecution used Jay's testimony as the main evidence to prove Adnan's
Adnan is clearly the murderer, he was hurt and angry that Hae left him for an older guy and his psychopathic personality allowed him to make Sarah believe he had no recollection of where he was at the
Adnan gave Jay his car and cell phone so that he could buy his girlfriends a present. Adnan then told Jay that he was going to kill Hae. Jay then drops Adnan off at school. After school Adnan kills Hae in her car by strangling her. Then he calls Jay from the payphone at Best Buy, telling Jay to come pick him up and that the murder was done.
He testified that he helped Adnan bury Hae Min Lee's body, and his testimony was used as evidence against Adnan in the trial. Jay's testimony has been called into question and was a central point of discussion in the Serial podcast. Jay Wilds' testimony was called into question by some people, including the creators of the Serial podcast, because of inconsistencies in his statements. For example, Jay provided different accounts of where and when he saw Adnan and Hae's car on the day of the murder, and he changed his story about when he learned that Hae had been killed. Additionally, Jay's testimony was not supported by other evidence in the case, such as phone records, which seemed to contradict his claims about his movements on the day of the murder.
Jay also mentions his involvement in the crime, claiming that after witnessing the crime, he got rid of his clothing and other items used, but if he truly didn't have anything to do with this murder, why would he have needed to do all of these
Putting these circumstances aside, it was said by many that the relationship was pretty typical and Adnan got over the breakup easily. This was said by teachers and friends of both Hae and Adnan. One of Hae’s friends, Becky, explained the relationship as “just a silly, teenage, high school, relationship” (Koenig “The Breakup”) which proves that Adnan was not as upset as the prosecution made him out to be at trial. Another notable aspect is that after Hae and Adnan broke up, Hae got in a small car accident and asked Adnan to come help her, her new boyfriend Don also showed up and confirms that him and Adnan had a cordial meeting and explains that they talked for 10 to 15 minutes even after the car situation had been figured out (Koenig “What We Know”). If Adnan was really that broken up about the breakup, he would not have been so friendly towards the new guy who seemed to take his place in Hae’s life.
She states “A year after Adnan was arrested and the case came to trial, Jay walked up to the witness stand. There’s a moment when Adnan muttered something to him” (45). By Adnan calling Jay pathetic he showed that he couldn’t believe Jay would rat him out. This incident shows that Adnan is a liar and is mad at Jay for going to the police, showing that he is guilty. Even after controlling himself through the whole case he snapped when he saw the man that betrayed him.
This reason makes sense because people don't have that much evidence to prove he's guilty of this crime. Most of the people talk about how Adnan and Haes relationship was. This part of the story is when Sarah says that Adnan and Hae relationship was serious. Sarah Koenig states “Hae was Adnan's first serious relationship with a girl.” Episode 1
