John Quincy Adams was the sixth president of the United States. John Quincy Adams was a U.S. Senator, a diplomat, and Secretary of State, all before becoming the sixth president of the United States. It is interesting/important to know the backstory of someone as significant as John Q. Adams. There are many things to know: birthplace/family, early years, education, political/adult years, time of presidency, and John Q. Adams’ last years.
John Quincy Adams was born on July 11th, 1767, in Braintree, Massachusetts, on a family farm. On February 9th, John Quincy Adams received votes of 13 states; Jackson, 7 states; and Crawford, 4 states. Many of John Quincy Adams’ political rivals were determined to make him a one-term president. In John Quincy Adams’ first year as president, he had many goals/propositions: building highways and canals to link the different sections of the country, conserve public lands, survey the whole U.S. coast and build astronomical observatories (A&E Television Networks, John Quincy Adams Biography.com). These goals were considered unrealistic for the Americas in the 1820s. Adams’ political rivals ridiculed him for these goals. They thought that his goals would increase the power of the federal government and they thought he was neglecting the people of the nation. According to Biography.com, in the midterm election of 1826, “Jacksonian” opponents won the vote majority in both Houses of Congress (A&E Television Networks, John Quincy Adams Biography.com).
