Night Hoops Book Report

This book shows that you can do anything you want to if you set your mind to it. Jordan was dedicated to playing football and put a lot of time into it. I liked how the book tied in love with the main theme of if you have a goal, you can reach it, by bringing in Henry and Ty. Once I read that Jordan was the starting quarterback on the football team, my first hypothesis was that she was going to be picked on and made fun of, only to realize that they accept her as one of the guys. I think that the book had a good ending and didn’t leave the reader questioning what will or would happen in the future.

The book The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern began dark and mysterious. The first sentence drags you into read more, describing the dark circus as, “Black-and-white stripes on grey sky; countless tents of varying shapes and sizes, with an elaborate wrought-iron fence encasing them in a colorless world” (3). Morgenstern paints a cold and depressing picture of a foreboding circus. He also makes it clear that the circus is abandoned during the day. However, when the sun goes down lights shine bright to outline a sign saying, “Le Cirque des Reves” translating into “The Circus of Dreams” (6).

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern uses lots of symbols: the circus, the ring, the clock and different colors throughout the book to help the reader better understand the story. The Night Circus shows readers about two people who have grown up training for a magic competition. When the main characters, Marco and Celia joined the competition a ring was put on to them. The rings are silver and gold which symbolize elegance and magic.

Sean Ye Mr. Villalobos English 9 23 October 2015 The Third Twin Book Report “The Third Twin” is about a criminality researcher, Jeannie Ferrami, as she prove a man’s innocence of a rape crime and also unlock a mystery that nearly gets her killed. The setting takes place in Baltimore around the turn of the twenty first century. It starts around autumn and seems relaxing until the rape occurs.

Another strong point was how well Kidd developed the characters. It was hard not to feel a sort of attachment to the characters and feel what they were going through as they came to life throughout the story. A shortcoming of the book was that I believe there was too much time spent on non-important events. A large chunk of the novel was spent on Sarah Grimke’s childhood and her love life, which weren’t necessary components of the book. The last section of the book talking about Sarah and Angelina’s journey speaking about abolition and women's rights was very vague while it was perhaps the most important part of the characters lives and of

Walter Dean Myers novel Hoops is about a young black boy, Lonnie, who dreams of becoming a professional basketball player, "My game is my fame, and I knew it was together" (2). Coming from a broken home and living in a bad neighborhood, Lonnie sees that becoming a basketball player could be his escape from Harlem. Lonnie has a bad relationship with his mother to the point where he doesn't even sleep in her house sometimes. Instead he sleeps in the hotel he works at. While at the hotel one day Lonnie sees across the street that the gas station was being rob, taking this as an advantage Lonnie runs across the street and steals a case of alcohol planning to sell it.

I personally like the way the females are in my family. It has taught me to be independent and showed me that if I want something, I have to get it myself. Besides that aspect, I do agree with how the Latino culture that was presented in the book.   After reading this book, I feel like I have not been as diverse as I have wanted.

In the beginning of chapter 1, Nick tells a tale about advice his father had given him. He talks about his young self as being vulnerable, as most are in their younger years. After growing up, he describes himself as a curious natured fellow; which made him a victim of boredom. Nick says that he was unjustly accused of being a politician due to his quick mind; showing that he likes to debate or speak his mind.

One of the first things we hear from nick in the book is that he will not judge people, that that is how he was taught. On the first page of the book he states “ … I’m inclined to reserve all judgements…” This clearly states that he with holds his judgement for others so he can see people in a different light, but as the story further progresses, it is clearly shown that he does not hold his judgement, he quite clearly lets it show in multiple chapters. It seems to most he does with hold most of his judgement, but is also clearly shown that he does not in most cases.

Nick believed that Trent was a bully and a bad kid that should be avoided and Trent help him prove that after Trent and his older brother Zack almost drown him in sewer water. But Nick soon learns that without the negative influence of his brother

Nick and Daisy experienced a closeness when they were reunited with each other, but people change and choices in their pasts were uncovered and led Daisy to abandon a true friend. After losing Daisy in a miserable situation he also lost Jordan due to nearly the same issues. Jordan did not see Nick for who he truly was anymore and when she decided to give up on their relationship she did so and never looked back. “... 500 days of summer, a romantic comedy, written by Scott Neustadter and Michael h weber, puts us in the life of a man named Tom Hansen in his mid-twenties, who meets a girl named summer Finn, who he believes is the love of his life. during their time together she gets him out of his comfort zone and gives him a different perspective on life. Summer becomes close with Tom, but in the process takes him on a roller coaster of emotions, and makes him question everything he thought about love, life, and the true meaning of happiness. While reading the screenplay, I 'd have to say I really enjoyed the way the writer gave life to the characters. Within the first ten pages, I was intrigued to learn more about tom and his situation.
