A 2002 study published by the Southern Medical Journal found that women who had abortions were 154% more likely to commit suicide than women who carried to term (http://abortion.procon.org/). This statistic shows that abortion can be deadly for not only the unborn child, but the mother as well. Many women cannot handle what they have done, so they try to escape reality in the worst way. Thus, this shows that many women don’t understand the gravity of their situation until the child has been removed. Abortion is one of the most divisive issues in our world today, and almost everyone has an opinion about it. Whether someone is a pro-life or a pro-choice supporter, they believe very strongly about their way of thinking. Abortion should not be legal because it is immoral and sends a message that life has little value. Women who get abortions are at a higher risk for depression and anxiety, and abortion is unfair when there are …show more content…
Depression after abortion is caused by women who don’t let themselves grieve after the procedure (https://www.newkidscenter.com/). Abortion ProCon wrote about a 2005 study published in BMC Medicine in which it stated that “...women who underwent an abortion had significantly higher anxiety scores on the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale up to five years after the pregnancy termination” (http://abortion.procon.org/). Five years is a long time for someone to feel this way, so women shouldn’t put themselves through that pain. Instead of allowing themselves to suffer, they should just decide not to go through with the abortion. Women’s maternal instincts are to care for a child, but many don’t realize the gravity of what they have done until after the child has been deprived of its existence. Thus, they become depressed and many start to abuse drugs and alcohol. This can affect them for the rest of their life, and it may damage future
Context. Postnatal depression is one of the most frequent difficulties viewed as behavioral issues and mental sickness/problems in women about four to six weeks after giving birth. It’s a major public health issue given its prevalence and impact not only on mothers and babies but also to their households as well. However, untreated postnatal depression is well-known to suffer adverse results such as unfavorable parenting practices and impaired mother-baby bonding, which in return is known to affect rationale and emotional growth of the baby. The gravest, of course, is maternal suicide and infanticide.
In the article “The Bad Mother: Stigma, Abortion and Surrogacy”, a statement claim that “in the United States, about one-third of women will have an abortion over the course of their lifetimes” (Abrams). In “When Is An Abortion Not An Abortion?” Mutcherson noted “in 2011, over one million abortions were performed in the United States” (207). Without abortion as an option, who knows what would’ve happened to them. Women who carry out an unwanted pregnancy are often at risk of depression and committing suicide.
I am not pro-choice nor am I pro-life. I 'm part of a small percentage that falls in the middle of this heinous debate on whether abortion is murder. Pro-choice is not pro-abortion, they do not advocate for abortion over birth. It simply defending the right of woman to decide for themselves. Saying someone is pro-life means they believe the government has a duty to preserve all human life regardless of intent of quality of life.
If so, it leads to what's call P.A.S.S Post Abortion Stress Syndrome. According to www.afterabortion.com why abortion in America has become a social problem “P.A.S.S. Is a type of Post traumatic stress disorder which develops when a woman is unable to work through her emotional responses resulting from the trauma of an abortion. Abortion has turned into something that women are being coerced into from boyfriends/husbands unwilling to be fathers, out of fear of the financial pressure, out of panic from losing their jobs, out of panic from having to quit school, or become homeless, or out of fear of their parents kicking them out into the street.an abortion. P.A.S.S. can have many serious side effects, ranging from depression to eating disorders, to as severe as suicide. There are women who abort and do so completely of their own free will.
Each person has a different and unique reason to be pro-choice. Someone’s own body is their property, and no one can use it without permission or consent. I am pro-choice because I don't think there is any reasoning why a woman should have to face all the ramifications or consequences from something that she did not do alone. If a guy can get a woman pregnant and then flee, there is no reason why she should be the only one responsible for everything. Having more options puts a woman on a more equal position with men, instead of being someone that can be taken advantage of.
Women have reported severe depression and suicidal thoughts and attempts. Researchers from the University of California in San Francisco have found that women who are denied abortions fare significantly less well than those who did receive abortions (Geier, par. 3). The same researchers concluded that women denied abortions are much more likely to need public financial assistance, and have a household income below poverty level. (Geier, par. 9). The American Psychological Association (APA) review found that severe negative psychological reactions to abortion are rare and that the vast majority of women experience a mixture of emotions after an abortion, with positive feelings predominating (NARAL
Finally, many pro-life viewpoints argue the moral right of abortion because you’re taking a human life. Abortion occurs before birth and at conception. A human’s life begins at birth when the baby comes out the mother’s womb, not at conception. Therefore abortion is not taking a young human’s life away. It is only terminating embryo at conception.
Postpartum Depression Postpartum depression refers to a kind of depression that some women experience after childbirth (Miller762–5). Postpartum depression is described as a chronic and debilitating psychological condition that is highly characterized with reduced quality life, heavy burden in regard to its treatment and management, and increased risks to a myriad of life-threatening adverse events and complications (Dennis & Dowswell). This disorder in the last years has gained more attention, more and more women suffer. This instant is the most important and beautiful that takes place in the life of a person, but also the most dramatic, so we must respect the times, fears and beliefs of the future mother, so you can help more in this
I’d like to say thank you for choosing to be pro-life. I have also chosen to be a pro-life because I feel that no one should be able to kill a baby. One reason I feel that no one should be able to have an abortion because if you go out and chose to do something and get pregnant, you shouldn 't have the choice to be able to do something and then have an abortion and kill a baby. If you 're going to make the choice of going out and then end up getting pregnant, you shouldn 't have the choice of being able to have an abortion. If you do get pregnant and you absolutely don’t want the baby, then after it’s born then you can give it up for adoption.
It is significant for physicians to recognize that anxiety is a prominent factor in postpartum depression so that treatment options will cover symptoms of anxiety as well as depression (Thurgood, Avery &Williamson,
According to Michael Snyder, “The number of American babies killed each year is equal to all the wars the United States took a part in combined”. According to Laura Hickey and Megan Santhanam, “if one sums up all the American casualties the U.S took part in the number of American babies in utero killed each year is approximately one million”. One million babies that don’t get the chance to live. Abortion is a highly controversial issue in the United States because it questions if a baby/fetus is considered a person. As well it questions our society’s norms, values and beliefs.
Pro-choice advocates give women a way out of facing conflict in the future by presenting abortions as glorious procedures. Although, after the procedure is complete many women feel have side effects such as: depression, bipolar-like mood swings, the feeling of something missing in her life. Many women see
The two sides of the debate are pro-life and pro-choice. Pro-life is the people who do not like the idea of abortion. They claim that life begins at conception and that abortion is murder. They also say that the fetus can feel pain during the abortion and that it is unfair to families that cannot conceive on their own that are waiting to adopt
Supporters of pro life also thinks not only are committing murder: theyyou are committing murder to someone who can't even fight back. Another reason why opponents are against abortion is because the women just doesn't get rid of their child because of their health, they also do it because there child would be born with medical problems. The authors of “Abortion” Rich and and Wagner states, “The law prohibits doctors from committing an “overt act” designed to kill a partially delivered fetus even if the woman’s health is at risk, or if the child would be born with ailments.” They are not only murdering an innocent child, they are murdering a child that they think would not be good in this world. Non supporters of abortion say this is inhumane and incredibly unspeakable.
Never mind the morality of abortion, even the health risks are unbelievable. When a woman receives an abortion she runs a 65 percent higher risk of clinical depression and 160 percent more likely to be hospitalized for psychiatric treatment. Abortions create more complications than going full term with a
