To many this is a major tragedy. I do not think the Reign of Terror was justified. Simply because of these three points; they threatened with unnecessary force, secondly, they used fear as a controlling device and lastly, their actions don 't add up to their reasons. The first reason the Reign of Terror was not justified is that they used unnecessary force. They threatened with the draft and made them fight against their will (Document C).

The Reign of Terror opened the door for the government of France to secure military victories with thus decreased the amount of stress on the government. In Documents B and C, they both illustrate how actions taking by the Committee of Public Safety, the leading Terror body, helped lead to France to victory against foreign enemies. Document B gives us a timeline of the events leading up to the Reign of Terror and we can see how the actions taken by the Committee of Public Safety, such as the Levee en Masse, helped bring about French Victory. The Reign of Terror was very violent event that took place; although, people made it out to be helpful and resolve multiple issues it resulted in making many people very miserable and sad. This act that took place was not justified because the leader was self elected and not giving people the right to vote for their leader. Another example of this was people´s hopes were manipulated and misguided leading up to violence. A hero was shining and the Reign of Terror was coming to an end in year two of the French Republic. However, the setting was out of whack and events were skewed which took away from the authenticity of the film. While historically, the time between 1793-1794 ended with the deaths of hundred of thousands, the film neglects to show this as the terror was in full effect. It was a little out of it’s time in regards to the fashion and led to an iffy portrayal of the french people.

After the execution of Louis XVI, the Reign of Terror began during the years of 1793 - 1794 which was led by French politician, Maximilien Robespierre and lasted for 18 months. This enormous massacre of people went against Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, all of which the national assembly declared were every man 's right.
