Sir Walter Raleigh appointed a man named John White to be the governor of Roanoke. John White brought over one hundred citizens from England into the colony of Roanoke. With the help from a previously befriended Native American named Manteo, who had been taken to England prior to the third expedition to Roanoke, John White helped settle Roanoke. During the establishment of Roanoke, settlers began to realize they needed more supplies from England. With no knowledge of farming, the settlers became angst to send John White back to England in return for more seeds, food, and supplies for the Roanoke colony.
After researching the documents I have compiled several pieces of evidence. I read data set 3 and found interesting evidence, it says “English settlers first came to Roanoke Island in 1585. Their colony failed, however. They fought with American Indians and they didn’t bring enough supplies.” This supports my theory that the colonists ran out of supplies.
Although, before heading home White sketched some drawing of his surroundings, and the people he had met on this voyage. Unfortunately, it took him three years to return, due to a major naval war that broke out between England and Spain, from which Queen Elizabeth I called on every available ship to confront the mighty Spanish Armada. When White did return, he found the colony abandoned and dismantled. What evidence has been found, and why is the Lost Colony of Roanoke yet to be found?

Along with the possibility of being killed by the Powhatan Indians many believe they went to live on Croatoan. “ It is not unreasonable to think that some of the lost colonies could have been adopted by Native Americans who often did accept ( outsiders),” says Dr. Stanley Nick. When the colonist got there, they were welcomed by the leader of the tribe, Manteo. “ Our main hypothesis is that Lost Colony moved into the mainland with the Croatians and assimilated,” says Fred Willard founder of the Lost Colony Center for Science and Research, an organization that has focused its research on the ancestry of modern Native Americans and their possible connection to the Roanoke
