The Underdogs The Underdogs is a Realistic Fiction book that was written by Mike Lupica. The main idea of The Underdogs is that there is a twelve year old boy named Will Tyler that wants to have a football team this year. Last year he lost to the Castle Rock Bears in the last seconds of the championship game, because he fumbled right as he was going to run it in for the game winning touchdown. Since that day, he has wanted a second chance. Will is having some problems with having the football team this year. One of the problems is that the team doesn’t have enough players. So Will talked to his dad about coaching the team. It took a bit of persuasion to get him to coach, but he did. The setting of the story takes place in Forbes Pennsylvania. Forbes used to be largely populated place because of the old shoe company Forbes Flyers that had brought many jobs and money to the town. But closed down because of larger shoe companies taking over, such as Under Armour or Nike. Now the town has lost much of its population because of it. The town has even been said in the book to even look a little abandoned. Some of the other main characters other than Will were Hannah Grayson, Joe Tyler, Toby Keenan and Dick Keenan. Hannah Grayson was a girl that was a player on the team. She is very tough and arrogant and has a very powerful leg. Joe Tyler or Will's dad was the coach of the team and he has a lot of passion for the game of football and can be very inspirational before their games. Toby Keenan is a very tall, muscular and athletic football player that plays on the team. Dick Keenan is Toby’s dad and is also very passionate about football like Joe Tyler but is also a loud mouth and has said some negative comments at their games such as “wait a second you finally figured out the game started (Lupica207)?” and “Toby Keenan did you forget everything I taught you about playing
