The first poetic diction in Golden retrievals is a simple metaphor. Although there are many hidden metaphors within this poem, There i one that stood out. “Or else you’re off in some fog concerning tomorrow” (Doty 9). This stood out because it represents the owner being distracted by the troubles and worries of the future; while the dog is trying to understand why their owner is always worried. The next poetic device is an onomatopoeia.
Starting with the " To the Right Honourable William, Earl of Dartmouth" which theme happens to be a poetic statement that Wheatley makes of gratitude and admiration towards the Crown of the Colonial government , in which she finds herself subjected to praising the unlikely of a bureaucratic appointment. As Wheatley states in her poem; "Though praise immortal crowns the patriot 's name, But to conduct to heavens refulgent fane," this line shows how she gradually composes a thematic ground into imagery towards the heavens and shinning temples, to those who are reading this (line 39-41).She was a very intelligent writer who uses metamorphically symbols to include her Christianity beliefs to dispense her way of thought to others. To continue she

Everyone battles their own war with different things. As the world evolves over time, we encounter problems similar to “The Seafarer” by unknown Anglo-Saxon and Robert Frost’s “Nothing Gold Can Stay.” The poems demonstrate sentimental value of a priced possession you eventually lose. Although the poems were written in different time frames, both illustrate the image of man versus time.
Back when there was just one somebody to be waiting for me every day, I knew every time I went to school would be a happy day. All my hope was pushed on that one friend; happy if she was present, upset when not. This, of course, did not last. On the first day of school, one year, she left without a word. Like said in the poem: “Her early leaf’s a flower, but only so an hour.”
I think the reader is suppose to fill in what gold is and what it syimbolizes. Nothing Gold Can Stay dose not have any cultural detail that I can see.
Theme is the main message/ emotion of the story. Novels use theme most of all the time so you can really know what the story is about. The Outsiders is a story of some kids who are trying to find their true identity. S.E. In “Nothing Gold Can Stay,” the narrator states that “natures first green is gold.” This idea can be split into two ideas. The word “green” has a connotation relating to both inexperience and nature. These two meanings allow for several different interpretations of “gold.” In a denotative sense, gold is an unchanging metal that doesn’t react and lasts the test of time.
This poem its mainly about a women , whose personifying her self on a diamond. She thinks its funny how a diamond can come from flames and still be something beautiful . She definitely feels that words are very important and sometimes they can have different meanings.
In Anglo-Saxon culture, gold was one of the most valuable possessions a person could own. Gold and treasure was a sign of wealth, honor, respect and power. To the Anglo-Saxons, people lived their lives to become more honorable in the eyes of their peers. People valued others who had more treasure as it was a sign of their accomplishments. The role of wealth, treasure and gold in this poem is important to the power and the honor of the individual.
When I read “Absence” first I saw that the poem talked about a salt shaker being used instead of a white knight in a chess game. The quote that stood out to me was: “about the saltshaker that was taking his place”, and what stood out was the salt shaker symbolized the people that are not as true as they seem to be, the knights symbolized the people we want in society, and the chess board represented society. When all the pieces are there, society functions properly, but when a salt shaker takes one of the pieces place, society becomes dysfunctional. Further research on a forum showed me that the salt shakers represented the heroes who we have, but we don’t want or need. Essentially, the theme of “Absence” was the dysfunctionality of society without a proper leader.
