The Benefits Of Going To College

College is very expensive, most parents cannot even afford to send their kids to college. That is why you have things like FASFA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), Scholarships, grants, sub/unsubsidized loans, and private loans. All of these sources are to help pay a percentage if not all of your schooling costs. But, applying for these sources is not that simple. There can be a number of things that could affect the amount of money you can receive, the most common is credit.

When looking at colleges to attend, students should consider applying to the multitude of scholarships that universities supply to monetary needy students. These monetary aids are based on financial necessity and awarded to impoverished students, specifically those under the poverty belt. If the thought of ever obtaining a student loan crossed your mind, then you are surely a primary candidate. Often universities will have more than one obtainable scholarship, boosting the probability of qualifying for multiple. If students find that they are still lacking financial support, they can try to apply to colleges that provide full rides.

College Isn’t for Everyone "By telling all young people that they should go to college no matter what, we are actually doing some of them a disservice" (Owen). This quote from “Brookings Paper: Is College a Good Investment” goes into detail about how college isn’t for everyone. By educators, parents, and authority figures telling graduating high school seniors that college is necessary, they are limiting the potential of that student’s true skills. College isn’t right for everyone and not everyone wants to go to college.

As the school year comes to a close and the only thing on a senior’s mind is how are they going to pay for college? Throughout our high school careers we always get asked what our plans are after high school and never how are you going to pay for that next step of your life after high school. We barely get prepared for the real world in high school we are forced to take classes the school thinks will be good for us not what we think or what will be best for what we want to study for in college. How are high schoolers supposed to be able to pay for college when they don’t get prepared enough in high school to go on to that next level of schooling and have to more than likely go into debt just to be able to pay for it. Colleges should no longer cost an insane amount of money to go there.

Though there are many individuals who believe that college is not for everyone, attending college and getting a higher education can open the gates to many tremendous life changing opportunities such as becoming healthier, begin able to secure jobs, and earning more financially.

Society often believes college is a necessary experience for a better future, but I argue that the future will not be any better when student debt becomes a part of life for those who follow that mainstream belief. Most parents often dream of the great colleges and universities that their children will get accepted into; however, they fail to think of the cost to attend those institutions. Financial aids! Financial aids! Yes there are financial aids that students can apply to lessen the student debt.

If a person’s parent or guardian drilled the idea of college into your head, or if they told you ‘do what you want’ or ‘I don 't care’, or ‘You’re not going’. While college is great, there are other means of education. The value of college is a low because there are people who do not qualify for a college education, and also because there are other ways of post-secondary education other than college. College is not valuable because many people will not make it into a 2 or 4-year college, much less graduate from one. To support this, in the article Why College Isn 't For Everyone, it says, “As a general rule, I would use graduates in the top quarter of their class at a high-quality high school should go on to a four-year degree program, while those in the bottom quarter of their classes at a high school with a mediocre educational reputation should not.”

When they leave high school they think that they can go to the most expensive school money can pay for, but in reality they cannot. Many parents are encouraging their children to reach for the stars, which they should, but you must also do so within your means. You must also understand that mommy and daddy are not going to be paying for everything. In all college is still worth it.

From the time we start our careers as students in school, we are told that in order to gains success in life we must attend college. That after high school, college is no doubt the next step we should be taking. Yet, for most students that are not wealthy this goal is almost unattainable. If the majority of students can’t afford tuition, then why is the tuition rate so high? Its certainly not an accident.

Going to college and attaining an upper-level degree is the goal of many Americans. Unfortunately, the costs of attending a four-year university go up every year, and most people don’t have the financial means to attend. Going to college is not easy, either financially or having the knowledge and strength are obstacles that prevent many from attending college. I know that having the knowledge and strength is all inside of me and just needs to spread. The financial part of going to college is what oneself has to look for. Finding with what to pay my education would have to be scholarships. Having the strength, knowledge and having a good financial help me in getting a bachelor's degree in nursing.

This brings me back to the main question, “Why do you want to attend college?” I have seen my parents struggle from moving to a whole new country to dropping out of high school before even starting it. I am fortunate enough to be where I am today, all thanks to my parents and hope to make my parents struggles not go to waste. With the help of Goedeker’s College Scholarship, I will be one step closer to reaching my goals. To this day my parents are still struggling with financial situations.

Most schools prepare students for college during middle school and high school, then again some wait until last minute and end up in a huge panic. Certain people are expected to go to college and some make the choice right away and some wait a year. Many go and some choose not to, but when it comes to college, it’s a huge topic in a senior’s life! We have to apply, write papers for scholarships, then cross our fingers and pray to get an acceptance letter or email, and pray we don’t see the words “denied” or “We’re sorry to inform you…”. As I said, not everyone goes to college but my sister decided to go because she wanted a better future for her and her son.
