Remember back to your days before school, before you had to get up and get ready for the bus, before you had to listen, be quiet, and sit for 7 hours at a time. Think about before you had to start working on subjects including math, reading, and history. When you were told you must attend school, you may have been nervous and not wanted to go; but after you got there, you realized that it wasn’t that bad and then you left and went home to do what you wanted. Then the second day you went and did the same thing as the day before, but now you had homework to do as well. Was homework worth your time and effort? Some believe that students are being overworked and being given too much homework that gets rid of their free time and turns students away from school and homework. People that are against students being given more homework say that it really is not beneficial to their education and growth. Studies show that over the years homework time has increased, “According to a study by Dr. Sandra Hofferth, the amount of time that grade-schoolers, ages three to 11, spend on homework increased by 50 percent between 1981 and 1997,” (Juan Williams). Now there are some people who do believe that homework in moderation can be beneficial to children and very important for their future education and work ethics. There have been studies that have proven that students who do homework do better in school do better than the children that do not do their homework. “Beyond achievement, homework can also lead to the development of good study habits and a recognition that learning can occur at home as well as at school. “Homework can also foster independent learning and responsible character traits – essential skills later in life when students change jobs or learn new skills for advancement at work”(Harrison
