The JonBenet Ramsey case was a case that garnered nationwide attention. To still be unsolved to this day, shows for one, that the investigation was not conducted properly. Who could have killed the six year old beauty queen? Questions surrounding the case remain to this day, nearly 20 years after her death.
In the early morning hours of December 26, 1996, Patsy Ramsey woke up went downstairs to the kitchen and found a ransom note that said their six year old daughter had been kidnapped and demanded $118,000 in ransom to get her back (Saferstein, 2011). One of the odd things about the ransom note that stands out is it was written on a notepad from inside the house and the amount was how much the father, John Ramsey had received as a bonus.

This officer even pauses at the door in the basement that was latched but never opens the door (Glick, Keene-Osborne, Murr, 1998). JonBenet Ramsey’s body would later be found behind that door. Because the case at that time was a kidnapping case, the only room sealed off as a crime scene was JonBenet’s room. The whole house should have been sealed off to preserve any and all evidence. Since the whole house was not sealed off, friends and family were allowed to come and go as they pleased into the house and were not restricted from any rooms except JonBenet’s. Victim's advocates were even allowed into the house bringing in food. These same advocates started cleaning up and a friend even started wiping down the countertops and sinks removing any possible trace of evidence (Keene-Osborne, Glick, 1997). JonBenet’s body was later found by her father and a friend in the basement. They removed the duct tape from her mouth and brought her upstairs in the white blanket she was found in further destroying any possible evidence from the crime scene. This also allowed for officers not to be able to document how the body was lying, evidence around the body, …show more content…
This was due in part to the ransom note being written on a note pad with a pen of the Ramsey’s. A handwriting expert looked into the ransom note and determined it was written by the mother Patsy Ramsey. There was also a practice ransom note that was found after the original ransom note. It would be easy to see why the police department focused so much of the investigation on the parents. The grand jury indicted the parents in 1999 for their part in the murder, but the judge dismissed the indictment due to lack of evidence. Their son who was also living in the house at the time of the murder was looked upon as a possible suspect but no charges were ever brought against
DNA was found at the crime scene that did not match any of the family members; since the DNA did not match an outsider must have been in the house as
First is that an intruder broke into their home, wrote the note, and killed JonBenét. Next is the mother Patsy, who might have had a motive of jealousy from the attention her daughter received, and thus killed her and had John help cover it up. Lastly, Burke may have unintentionally murdered his sister by hitting her with a flashlight after she took his food and ran, but John and Patsy staged it to be as if someone else had kidnapped and murdered her. If the crime scene had not been contaminated, if family and friends spoke to the police further, and if Burke would have spoken in depth about his childhood relationship with his sister – the investigation may have had further evidence to go upon. Nonetheless, the Boulder County attorney declared on October 13th, 1999 that there was not enough sufficient evidence to declare anyone as the culprit.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking. My original hypothesis was that the murder was an inside job. To me it didn’t seem plausible that an intruder could climb through a window, go all the way upstairs, us a stun gun on JonBenet and Take her down to the basement and kill her without making a sound or alerting the three people sleeping in the Ramsey household. Watching the CBS television special was vital in proving my hypothesis.
The police investigating the crime said that the way the body was placed seemed like a cover-up for the crime, but could have also been moved by the father who found and picked her up, and that the ransom note was staged by Patsy Ramsey. In 2002 the DA reinvestigated the case, this time they looked at people that were not related to JonBenet as suspects. In 2008 the DA sent out an apology letter to the ramseys declaring that the family was completely cleared from the crime, and in February 2009 the Boulder Police reopened the investigation. There are two main theories about who killed JonBenet Ramsey one of the two is the Intruder Theory, Smits Theory was a theory that someone had broken into the ramseys
Many had suspected that the Ramsey family had some involvement in the demise of JonBenét. However, according to a quote by crimemuseum.org “In 2008, the Boulder District Attorney’s office announced that due to recent developments in DNA technology, the Ramsey family is-no longer considered to be involved in the murder of JonBenét Ramsey(Crime Museum, LLC).” With no new leads or positive hits on DNA samples, the JonBenét Ramsey case has gone
JonBenét Ramsey, a six-year-old beauty queen daughter of Patsy Ramsey and John Ramsey found murdered in her home on December 26, 1998. This murder has yet to be solved, and as the years go by, the case seems to get colder and colder. As a result, there have been many conspiracy theories in this case. Many people have started to believe that an intruder murdered her, but what if it was someone in the house? Maybe someone very familiar with this home.
JonBenet Ramsey was murdered in her home December 24, 1996. Although police found a ransom note demanding $118,000, the money would never be necessary, because JonBenet’s body was found under a blanket in the basement that afternoon. Evidence was not preserved correctly with moving her body. There were no signs of forced entree and the ransom note left was suspicious matching the family's bonus.
The murder of JonBenet Ramsey was discovered following the discovery of a ransom letter found by her mother Patsy Ramsey on December 26, 1996 (Saferstein, 2015). There were numerous mistakes made by the Boulder Colorado Police Department. The house was not secured, moreover, not preserved as a crime scene. The ransom letter alone should have prompted the law enforcement officers on scene to secure the house to preserve any evidence. The letter was found at the foot of the stairs within the residence indicating an intruder had in fact entered the Ramsey residence.
First of all, before explaining this crazy story, just know that this case is unsolved and will probably stay unsolved. So, on December 26th, 1996, Patsy Ramsey awoke to find her six year old daughter missing and a ransom note demanding $118,000 to get her back. In complete frantic, Patsy called 911. Later on in the day, the body was found behind a locked door in the basement.
Also, supposedly found by the mother, Patsy, was a ransom note, but it was nothing like a real ransom note. It was three pages long, way too long to have been a real ransom note, and had mentioned a ridiculously huge amount of money, $118,000. Many think it was written by Burke and the parents because of the messy handwriting and it was also found to have been written in Burke’s notebook. Also being signed with the abbreviation “S.T.B.C.”, which can mean Christianity, “Saved By The Cross.” The Ramseys are known to be a Christian family.
Police were called the following morning to report that their daughter had gone missing. Police found a ransom note demanding 118,000 dollars, this never came to a complete investigation. Later that afternoon Ramsey's body had been found under a blanket in the basement. The detectives didn't do such a good job with continuing this case. There are multiple theories to this case.
She dialed 911 immediately. When police arrived, they found no evidence of forced entry and no JonBenet. Hours later police asked Mr.Ramsey to search the house. That is when Jhon Ramsey found his daughter dead in a room in the basement. Twenty years later the case of JonBenet Ramsey is still unsloved.
In the murder of Jonbenet Ramsey a 6 year old beauty pageant girl who lived in Boulder, Colorado. On the day after christmas of 1996, Jonbenet’s Mom Found a ransom note that said that they kidnapped jonbenet and was asking for money to have jonbenet back. They called the police to tell them that jonbenet has been kidnapped and that they found a ransom note. After a while the dad John Ramsey found jonbenet’s body strangled in the wine cellar in the basement. He looked in the wine cellar first which was where her body was.
When I looked at the handwriting of the ransom note and the handwriting of Patsy, there are some similarities, within the letters. Any individual can make their handwriting look sloppy, but there will always be similarities. I believe Patsy could have been irritated by something that JonBent could have possibly done, which caused Patsy to hit JonBent with a forceful object that could have caused serious brain damage. Instead of taking JonBent to the hospital she decide to stage a crime sense of a kidnap and murder instead. If Patsy did murder her daughter she got away with the
After being examined the autopsy reported that she had a fractured skull, had been sexually assaulted, and had been strangled with a garrote made from one of her mother's paint brushes. The conclusion of her death was homicide, and the cause of death was asphyxia from being strangled and craniocerebral trauma. When the Boulder Police Department started to investigate they strangely did not interview the Ramseys and when they did they were interviewed separately. For four years the reports from the investigation always came up short. The Ramseys were suspects and although the Boulder District Attorney Alex Hunter didn’t file charges against them in 1999, the public still finds the Ramseys guilty.
