There was not a massacre on March 5, 1770 in Boston because according to Captain Preston and John Bufford, the colonist and the troops were both armed and attacked each other. This means that what happened in Boston was not a massacre. The first reason the event was not a massacre is because the event in Boston 1770 was a war. As stated by Captain Preston “The colonists were assembling to attack the troops… they surrounded the guard and threatened to execute… after a soldier was attacked he fired…”. This supports my claim because it proves that, both the troops and colonists were attacking each other, and the troops attacking the colonists was not a random decision. Simple put, the event was battle-like because it was two sided.
One of its own kinds in history of America, Boston Massacre ended up in killing of five people and a few injured but this end up was just the beginning of
They shouted, “No taxation without Representation!” The Boston Massacre and The Boston Tea Party angered the colonists and the king. This caused trouble between the Patriots and the British which led to the American Revolution. To start with, The Boston Massacre was just
Little did the colonists know the bitter depiction of the 1770s “Bloody Massacre” blinded them from the truth. On the evening of March 5, 1770,
One week ago, the colonist attacked the British. This was a tragic event where the Colonist threw snowballs, clubs, oysters, and chunk of ice. In addition they told us the British,to fire if we dared, so we did but, on accident. Once one of us fired, other British started to. The colonist protested that they were unarmed but they really had many items that could kill.
Although many historians believe that the Boston Massacre was an act of murder, it is clear that the incident was self-defense. First, On March 5, 1771, a group of colonists gathered and started taunting a soldier in front of the Custom House. Quickly more colonists gathered around the soldier. Different sources say that there were anywhere from 70-200 men that were there that night. According to Unsolved History: The Boston Massacre, Captain Preston got a group of soldiers to go out and get the soldier.
One day, this rivalry led to a disaster on the streets of Boston. It was March 5, 1770, and a group of particularly fiery Bostonians were taunting the soldiers. They were getting closer and closer to the troops, and without warning, the soldiers opened fire on the citizens. The troops ended up killing five Bostonians. Sam Adams, a Patriot, called the event “a horrid massacre.”
The American Revolution was a time period where there were 13 colonies in America exploring more of the land everyday, The british shared the land with people who are called the pilgrims and ended up soon turning into Patriots and after that Americans. Great Britain started abusing their colonists while there were shootings and many taxes of colonists, many were unfair, and this led to the revolution. This war was between The Patriot/Americans against the British/Loyalists. The revolution happened because a few major events in history took place in Boston others will say it as British Territory.
Before Britain became the dictatorial power clouding any American effort to speak up, they were involved in a series of four wars. The last of them, the French and Indian War, occurred on American soil and the British victory handed England a pile of debt and a huge land dispute between the Indians residing in the territory the British gained through the Treaty of Paris and the colonists eager for new land. This started the ferocious turmoil between Britain and the American colonies. From the end of the French and Indian War in 1763 to the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, British antagonistic policies only added gasoline to America’s resentment of British rule, and sparked their unity and dedication to colonial republican values. The end of the French and Indian War, signals the beginning of harsh
Although there are many reasons why the American Revolution started, a few of them had a larger consequence. First, the Boston Massacre had a major impact on the American Revolution. To continue, another instigator to the colonists seeking their independence was the Boston Tea Party. Lastly, The Battles of Lexington and Concord really pushed towards the American Revolution. Let us begin with how the Boston Massacre had a significant impact on the American Revolution.
The Boston Massacre was influenced by the British soldiers first shooting the colonists. Due to the commands of Captain Preston, the soldiers were forced to engage in fighting, said by William Wyatt. In his account, the British were ordered around by Captain Preston and were not in the usual formation for a battle. From other perspectives, like George Sanderlin and Andrew, they had heard the captain boom, “Fire! Be the consequences at will.”
“FIRE, FIRE, DAMN YOU, FIRE! I DARE YOU!” yelled the colonists on the street as they threw snowballs, rocks, shells and clubs at the British soldiers. This was the beginning of what was called the Boston Massacre, it occurred on the night of March 5th, 1770. On this night, five men and boys were killed because of the confusion between the soldiers and the colonists.
Although many historians believe that the Boston Massacre was an act of self-defense, it is clear that the incident was murder by the British soldiers. First of all, the soldiers came out with all of their bayonets and other weapons raised. This shows it was murder because the soldiers were prepared to fire into the crowd when they got into the street, not just rescue the sentry. Secondly, after the first round of bullets, the soldiers reloaded and fired again. This is evidence for murder because the soldiers clearly intended to kill more colonists, not just try to scare them off.
There were many disagreements and because of those, many events were the cause of the American Revolution. These events included bloodshed by others, peoples rights weren’t enforced, individuals didn’t receive freedom, and our country was just not yet whole. Despite of the causes of why the road to Revolution took place there were effects afterwards. When American Revolution was over with the The Declaration of Independence came into place, treaties were signed, and the Bill of Rights. Now these effects/events were amazing, it helped our country tremendously.
The Boston Massacre was a street fight that occurred on March 5, 1770, between a “patriot”. They were throwing sticks, snowballs, and trash at a group of British troops. The loyalists got very annoyed with the patriots so they shot into the mob killing five. The riot began when around 50 colonists attacked a British sentinel. A British officer called in for additional troops
The Boston Massacre is an event most Americans and British students learn about over the course of their education. In America, we learn that British soldiers fired upon innocent civilians, although this may not have been the case. British historians have referred to the Boston Massacre as the "Incident on King Street". After looking over the "Captain Thomas Preston 's Account of the Boston Massacre", as well as "Boston Massacre Trial Depositions" I believe that American historians should refer to the "Boston Massacre" as the "Incident on King Street". The definition of a massacre refers to an unnecessary and random killing of a large number of individuals.
