Coca Cola became such a well known American Icon because it was a suitable drink for everyday consumption by people of all ages unlike alcoholic drinks and wasn’t bitter like coffee and tea. The history of the United States are founded by the ideas defined by two separate documents known as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The ideas for our nation are based off of these two documents and it establish the goals that the country set out to complete. These documents are almost 200 years old but these written rules and ideas have not always been followed through with. There were times when the people became hypocrites of their own documents and did things that contradict what they said they would set out to do. Our history does not reflect the words of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution because of the way African Americans, Women, and Native Americans were treated and valued.

History is important not only because it offers insight on how life was in the past, but also allows us to better understand current situations. Since a young age, I found myself longing to be informed about the world around me. Thankfully, this urge was settled by local news broadcasts. Whether this interest developed due to the lack of cable television in my household or an actual interest, the news broadcast became “must-see” programming for me.
The American Historian and Diplomat George Kennan once said that “The very concept of history implies the scholar and the reader. Without a generation of civilized people to study history, to preserve its records, to absorb its lessons and relate them to its own problems, history, too, would lose its meaning.” Humans must heavily analyze the past via themes when reviewing sources in order to understand the past through our ancestors eyes. This is why the themes of the 3Cs, Change, Comparison and Connection are fundamental. Connection must be considered due to the way countries can affect each other, such as the way the Industrial Revolution had a widespread impact across the world.
