The Confederacy was like a fire. The north tried to smother it, but there was still a flame left. At that point all you could do was wait for it to burn out. The Civil war brought about a lot of hate and sectionalism between the North and South. Even after the war the flame of the Confederacy still burned. The US government tried to suppress all this hate and start the reconstruction of the United States. There were many things that added to the fire such as the newly freed slaves, the political parties, and the Ku Klucks Klan. After the war ended tons of former United States slaves were freed and it was a complex situation. The slaves were just put in a world they have not been prepared for. Their whole lives were built around dedicating their life for free labor. Now they are free and must find labor, and get paid for it. No one wants to hire a Black man or woman. Then there were these things called the Black Codes that were created, they took away many of the slaves rights. These were created to ease the slaves back into society, but it’s not freedom. You can not promise freedom and give them half of a free life. It …show more content…
At the wars end the two sides still had their political differences. It was one of the man reasons the war was started. The two main political parties were the Democrats and the Republicans. The north was mainly Republican, but the south was Democrat. These two parties feuded in the south. The few Republicans in the south were marginalized from society and were beaten up by the Democratic southerners. The majority opinion in the south was to still keep they’re old traditions and southern culture. The Southern Republicans represented the men who wanted change from this point of view. These men were tortured daily and the government didn’t do much about it. The South really kept building on to that fire by striking fear in anyone that might not agree with the southern
What the kkk was doing was main reason why the north got distracted from the reconstruction and how the south had the biggest part in killing the reconstruction. During the efforts of the reconstruction a lot of the south was trying to reject them and it was working. There were mainly two southern groups: the scalawags who supported the reconstruction and the Ku Klux Klan who really hated the idea of the reconstruction and equal rights. (Hook Exercise) The KKK was basically a terrorist group who when around killing congressmen who were for the reconstruction and equal rights.
The Civil War between the Union and Confederacy preset stereotypes that would define both the Republican and Democratic party for the ensuing decades. The Republican party was associated with the Union, while the Democratic party was associated with the Confederacy. In short, following the end of the war, a victorious Union army ushered in an era of political dominance for the Republican party. Following an economic recession leading up to the election of 1896, Republican control was in jeopardy. Both of the major platforms began to reshape in order to appease the dissatisfaction of the American people.
The Civil war started when the Southern states seceded by the Union. “Apprehension seem to exist among the people of the Southern States. The war still continued even though Lincoln believed there should not be any enemies against anyone in the United States. Glory for the private soldiers were different for the officers.
During the Civil War there were many differences besides slavery. This war had the most American deaths than all of the wars the U.S. has been in combined! The south seceded from the north for slavery and other less important reasons. The North had more of nearly everything like navy, soldiers, horses, and food, while the south had slaves, cotton, and donkeys/mules. Throughout the war many great leaders rose and fell, battles fought, and great and terrible outcomes.
As I have stated already, the main reasons were that they [Klu-Klux-Klan] were killing and brutally murdering black politicians, or even, any random citizen who was either for the “Reconstruction” . The other reason I stated was that they brought to many problems to themselves, that the “Northern Neglect” did not feel like they should be responsible for that. Tens of thousands people who live here all blame the ‘Northern Neglect” for this cause that was once beautiful. If only they would hear my argument on why I believe in what we did to them was very horrible,we were killers. They are just holding a deaf ear, but we can come to conclusion that it was our fault for this act that was once supposed to be a way to make America a land of opportunities, but instead turned it to a land of
Uncompromising differences between the South (Confederacy) and the North (Union) created a civil war that lasted five years. During this war, Abraham Lincoln was president. His election led to the secession of many Southern states. After refusing to recognize the Confederacy as its own nation, the American Civil War commenced in 1861. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were industrial and agricultural economies, politics, and slavery.
South vs North The south thought they could do what they wanted .Before the Civil War the South depended on slavery and the North was more of a Industrial. Then there were arguments about slavery should not be in the new states .People came up with compromises to fix all the fuss of which state is free and which state is a slave one.
Both the Confederate soldiers and the Union soldiers fought for many different reasons. Both felt that their side had the right idea and the others where being close minded or soft and not willing to make surfaces to better the country. Many of the Confederate fights for freedom from the government along with the ideas of slavery. Union soldiers fought for the unity of America along with the sense of adventure. Mostly the poor fought for both sides due to the daft being easily avoided by the rich.
The two out four questions that I choose are to 1.) Discuss the causes of the civil war. Cite as many facts as possible to back up your analysis. And answer 2.) If the enduring vision of America is embodied in the Declaration of Independence's statements about equality and universal rights to justice, liberty, and self-fulfillment, how much progress toward those ideals had blacks and women made by 1877?
During the Mid 1800’s marked a crucial period for our country. It will have a big effect on the development of our country. Throughout this time, our country was split, split into two sections, the North and the South. The Civil war was a war fought against the North and the South, the Union and the Confederates, from 1861-1865.
The blacks were forced to vote for republicans, the blacks were looked at as free but not as equals in the south, the most powerful people lawyers, doctors and dentists who could make a difference were members of the Ku Klux Klan, who were against reconstruction. The southern leaders of the government only wanted white people in power, the north pulled out all its soldiers from the south, making it even more difficult for the freedmen to be free and equal. The South had a lot of violence, The KKK held responsibility for most of the violence in the south because not one person tried to stop them. The KKK is a
The South decided to continue to fight about the ‘Carpet-Bag’ government and resisted the North’s help when it was offered. Reconstruction slowly died when the South kept resisting the help from the North. In the South, people such as the KKK took control of the South and the North got sick of it. Southerners resisted help and decided to use an corrupt government and ideas in the South.
Following the establishment of the Republican and Democratic parties, the two sides have always clashed over key political arguments happening in the country. The parties are seen as opposites in the point of view of many Americans, taking different sides almost all the time, even in today’s political establishment. During the Reconstruction Era, the Democratic party was the party of slavery and business because they were mainly supported in the south and was called “The White Man’s Party” by the Republicans. While the Republican party during this era was the party of the Union and supported African American rights, which gave them the name “Negro dominated” by the Democrats, even though White men lead the party. After many years of conflict, the U.S. Civil War happened after the South threatened and eventually seceded from the Union because of changing laws in the federal government, which didn’t
The Civil War allowed the United States to make the changes necessary to unify the country. In addition, it began one of the most transitional periods in the United States’ history. This period, the Reconstruction, brought about many political, social, and economic changes, which were both beneficial and disagreeable. The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments, the Panic of 1873, and the formation of the Ku Klux Klan are just a few examples of heavily impacting events for the United States. During the Reconstruction period there were numerous political transformations in the country.
To a greater extent, slavery was the greatest cause of the outbreak of the civil war in 1860. Disputes of slavery caused economic and political troubles between the northern and southern states leading up to the civil war. The fact the the northern and southern states were different in almost every way caused them to turn out like completely different territories, one of their greatest differences was the fact that most southern states economy relied on hard labour, agricultural jobs like tobacco in Maryland, and cotton in Virginia; this caused their economy to be more based on the labour of slaves than the more developed territories in the north (Harrold), who after this time was starting to not need the slave labour in their territories because after early 1800’s, the industrial revolution had been spreading to America, and the country developed very quickly. But in this expansion, only the north states were getting the effect of the industrial revolution, meaning the north would not need slave
