Some of the considerations about education have changed when we compare those considerations by looking closely at the qualifications of the blue-collar workers and students. Two writers looked at different generations, and one of them focused on the experiences of the blue-collar workers; however, the other writer looked at considerations from another perspective by paying attention to statistics. Her job requires a considerable amount of physical and mental work. She has to remember many information such as the order belongs to whom and how long it takes a dish to be ready (Rose 274). In his mother’s job, she learned how to be smart at doing her job, how to make a sequence plan of things she has to do, and how to solve problems (Rose 274). His mother said that she learns new thing every day in her job (Rose 275). After he finished his mother’s story, he starts talking about his mother brother Joe Meraglio. Joe quit school when he was in the ninth grade. He works at General Motors as a supervisor of the paint-and-body department. His job was like a school for him where he learned things that school did not provide such as being able to use his body in a proper way to do tasks faster and save energy (Rose 277). Although he had lacked of knowledge, he was successfully able to initiate the redesign of the nozzle on a spray paint sprayer and lower the energy costs on the banking ovens without reducing the paint’s quality (Rose 277). His purpose was to describe how people integrate physical and mental work is in the field and supports people in the blue collar field. I felt as if I was at a dead end job and earning nothing from it, but Mike Rose’s article influenced me that I was actually learning and gaining skills at my work place. He brings to the attention of the public the fact that many student in America graduate lacking the skills necessary for the proper college education. The terms blue and white collar refer to the colors of shirts that have been commonly worn by different types of workers. A blue collar worker is a working class person who performs manual labor. Most blue collar job is paid by hourly rates. Welders, road crews, factory assemblymen, construction workers, miners, loggers, and many other types of laborers are all considered blue collar. Blue collar jobs have given many men and women with lower education the opportunity to be able to provide for their self and family.
In the article, “Blue Collar Brilliance”, published in the summer of 2009 by Mike Rose in the American Scholar, Rose persuades people that the amount of someone’s educational level doesn’t justify their intelligence level and we shouldn’t base our opinions of their intelligence purely off their jobs. Do you think someone with a higher education-level job requires more from the worker than someone that started working right from high school? Or do you think that not going to college after high school means that you just stop learning? One of Mike Rose’s main ideas in the Blue-Collar Brilliance is the question, is there really a difference between white and blue collar worker? Mike Rose is being persuasive in the text because he shows how his family went through blue collar work. I think Mike Rose is being persuasive in writing this.
The authors’ emphasis on “on average” is very effective at showing how their point makes sense and why it should be taken into consideration. I found the way that the authors focused on the minority more than the majority was skillfully effective at showing how some career paths do not require a college education and that the return in investment would not be worth the cost. Throughout their argument I found the writers to mostly use Logos and Ethos in their writing. The Logos is evident by the way they use statistics and the Ethos by how they state telling someone the only way to be successful is to go to college is a disservice. This is effective at making the reader think about how this should affect the decision of going to college and whether they should push someone to go to

In Charles Murray’s essay “Are Too Many People Going to College,” he believes that the concept of college has changed over the years. According to him, a four-year college is no longer as necessary as it was when it was first created because most jobs requires more on job training. He also adds to his reasoning by mentioning that because of the advancement of internet, physical libraries and the physical proximity of student and teachers is less important. Because of the changes he noticed he believes that people should go to college but not for liberal education. He makes the claim that the basic core knowledge of liberal education should be learned in elementary and middle school and that only people with high academic abilities should be encouraged to go to college.

He describes that blue-collar jobs require more intelligence and skill than what people may think. He describes his experiences growing up seeing his mother as a waitress in coffee shops and restaurants. He portrays his mother as a dedicated and loyal woman who loved her job and put her heart and soul into her job as a waitress.
The general argument made by author Charles Murray in his article, “Are too many people go to college,” is that the college is not necessary for everyone. More specifically, the Murray argues that students who went to school should have learned the core knowledge they will learn in the college. He writes, “ K-8 are the right years to teach the core knowledge, and the effort should get off to a running start in elementary school” (236). In this passage, Murray is suggesting that start teaching the core knowledge in elementary school until high school is better than to spend money and more time to the college. It is not important to go to college.
“On average, college graduates make significantly more money over their lifetime than those without a degree… What gets less attention is the fact that not all college degrees or college graduates are equal. ”(pg.208 para. 1) Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill are senior researchers at Brookings’ Center on Children and Families, Sawhill is also a senior fellow in economics study at Brookings’. Owen and Sawhill authored the essay, “Should everyone go to College?” The authors use a wide variety of rhetorical devices in the essay, including ethos, pathos, and logos to persuade their audience to take another look at whether college is the right choice for them.
Their statement supports the author and his case by supplying extra facts about college graduates not having a job right after so they resort to a lower paying job where college may not be required. Continuously, Rose talks about the basics such as reading, writing, and simple math as a being “cognitively rich” (1041). He lets us know how growing up he was around a bunch of Blue-Collar workers himself, and how intelligence is not based on the education you have but what you can Develop on your own from just being open minded. He explains to use how blue-collar jobs take a toll on both body and mind. He believes that you don't need to be taught things to develop intelligence that your intelligence comes from within. From the details of this close examination, I tried to fashion what I called “cognitive Biographies” of blue-collar workers.
The “gross” jobs are going unloved in this world today. Blue-collar jobs are the same as white-collar jobs. Blue-collar jobs use the same skills. If you work hard at your job you can get anywhere with this job. Pay may be low at your starting point, but as you work harder and longer you could become a millionaire.
