Business Issue
In an attempt to reunite the company after being geographically separated for seven months, my company commander decided to create a rotation between several of the employees. While the intentions of the switch were pure, the implementation created immense manning requirements on my organization. Due to travel schedules, my organization was going to have multiple days with employee shortages, forcing my employees to work double shifts instead of having a rest day; the same was not true for the other entity of the company. Consequentially, I had to negotiate with my commander in order to resolve the scenario. Although I attempted to implement effective negotiation tactics, the situation resulted in my commander implementing the final decision due to the organizational structure of my company.

In regards to the negotiation, the chain of command and centralization influenced the ultimate decision made by the commander and my inability to sway his opinion. Chain of Command.
The Army operates with a strict chain of command, thus once a higher ranking individual makes a decision, the subordinates execute the decision as long as it is not unethical or immoral. This organizational structure aligns with Hebrews 13:17, which teaches to obey and support leaders to make their work enjoyable because insubordination does not benefit anyone involved (NIV). Since my organization has a strict chain of command, once my commander made his decision to implement the rotation, as a subordinate I had to follow the orders regardless of the strength of my opposing argument.

In determining whether a genuine issue of the material fact whether a genuine issue of material fact occurs regarding the reasonableness of the requested accommodation, we first examine whether Turners facial presenting that her proposed accommodation is possible. If appellant has made out a prima facie showing, the load then shifts to prove a favorable defense, that the accommodations requested by Turner are unreasonable or would cause an undue hardship on the employer. In contrast, If Turner has satisfied her initial burden, Turners proposed accommodation seems practical. At this time, Hershey rotations policy is new one which had never been required of employees in Turners position. If Turner 's proposed accommodation would permit the new rotation program to endure, even though on a modified basis.
Part A: The professor was driving to work one day, and another driver ran a red light, then hitting him. After this incident, whether the situation was harmless or not does not matter; as we saw with Watson's study, with little Albert and the white rat/rabbit. (Reference: Watson exposed a child to a series of stimuli with a white rat and a rabbit, then observing the child's reactions. The child initially showed no fear response on either animal. The next time Albert was exposed to the white rat, Watson made a loud noise by hitting a metal pipe with a hammer.
Importance of Rank Structure “Military ranks are a system of hierarchical relationships in armed forces, police, intelligence agencies or other institutions organized along military lines. Military ranks and the military rank system define among others dominance, authority, as well as roles and responsibility in a military hierarchy. The military rank system incorporates the principles of exercising power and authority, and the military chain of command – the succession of commanders superior to subordinates through which command is exercised – constructs an important component for organized collective action.”
By utuilizing this method of conflict resolution it makes my job easier in some instances. Given that I work in a quasi military environment and hold a position of command, this tends to be quick solution to problems in some instances. However, at times, compromising and collaboration work as an alternative method of conflict resolution. This is especially true when it involves working with other police departments on county wide projects and iniatives. These styles often times produce the best results because it allows for the best of all agencies to be incorporated into the
Refusing or not or not doing an order precisely as given indicates an unwillingness to compromise for the general good of the unit shows self centered decisions and selfishly motivated that a successful military member should not have. Every order in any circumstance is important, so long as it’s not unlawful, and has
Military bearing is the start in which every soldier practices either as enlisted or commissioned in order to have good discipline and ethics throughout a military career. Army regulations and soldiers should live by the creed that a military service member should conduct themselves on a daily basis, on and off duty . Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage are Army core values. To be a dependable Soldier you must show your NCO’s that you can be an adult with time management, meet deadlines, be in the right place at the right time, in the right uniform, and doing the right thing at the right time. Dependability is a major aspect of military bearing.
A Commander sustains an ethical command climate in war by establishing clear intent and purpose for their organization, accentuated through his vision. The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) and the Law of War are the military guidelines and penalties for soldiers to act accordingly. Distinctively, the majority of people know the difference between right and wrong. Command team (i.e. Commander and NCOs) are role models for the organization and set the example for their subordinates, which led to sustaining an ethical climate. 1. What problems did you encounter when handling the complaint? Whenever I received complaints, the problem is that the subordinates usually deny or come up with some explanations making it difficult to discuss it in a genuine manner. Sometimes even if we reprimand them for their mistakes it creates a very tense environment in the hospital and it also affects the quality of work.
As described earlier in the introduction part, I have recalled different courses of negotiation in my life from which I have tried to figure out my weaknesses and strengths. Before the negotiation course, I could only realize some of my capacity and limits, for example I might be good at emotional control and bad at active listening. I believed they were not all the weaknesses and strengths that I should realize. In addition, I found it hard to hone my strengths and improve my weaknesses because (i) I did not see negotiation in systematic viewpoint (ii) I have not had enough negotiation experiences. Thankfully, this course has shed the new light on the wide scope of negotiations and how they should be conducted.
Leaders must apply the Army Values when leading soldiers because of the fact that it builds trust and a bond. The same goes for the soldiers, in order for them both to work as an effective team and to get the mission done efficiently they both must live by these values. Once these values are integrated in a soldier’s lifestyle, it becomes too easy to work as a unit. An example on how loyalty and respect fits in a day to day to situation would be, a soldier witnessing a misunderstanding with his or her team leader and a higher ranking NCO, the soldier knows that his or her team leader is in the right. The soldier shows loyalty by standing by their team leader and shows respect by approaching both their team leader and the higher ranking NCO with tact to explain the situation from their understanding and what they witnessed.
The adjustment in negotiation style could be in time orientation, focal point selections (substance or relationship), team setting (individual or group) and communication patterns (the way to start negotiation, make offer or refuse offer, etc.). Good preparation and better understanding the cultural differences is believed to create chance to reveal both sides’ interests and expand the bargaining zone. As a result, it will be more possible that the deal could be made in win – win
Not committing to the task could potentially suggest that they were incompetent or lack the capacity as a military personnel so facing ‘dangers’ was a much preferred option. Additionally, discipline in the military can be seen when an officer makes his salutes appropriately, their conduct, to the state of their uniform and even how they present themselves in public. While discipline in military is rewarded as it is a sign of respect and duty, misconduct on the other hand is punishable. When discipline is lacking in an army personnel, it not only affects their own performance but also the team as a whole. It is therefore important to instil discipline early and effectively.
