Nationally, guns are used in 68% of homicides, which helps explain why America experiences more gun homicides than any other modern nation in the world (Hirsh 86). If America wants to make a real change, then its legislators and constituents must have the will to improve its current gun control laws. By recognizing the lack of any meaningful laws, society can start focusing on the failures of the political system. Currently, there are twenty-two thousand gun control laws in place (Hirsh 86). Due to the large number and minimal impact on America, it appears that these laws are ineffective and in need of a restructuring focused on the gun retailer.

In this regard, since 1996, Australian gun law totally bans the importation, manufacturing, sales, possession and use of automatic and semi-automatic rifles and guns. In addition, states in Australia conducted a large scale mandatory buyback program from the owners and dealers in order to reduce or remove the already existing automatic and semiautomatic weapons in the society. On the other hand, automatic and semiautomatic weapons are legally permitted in most states of the US and are abundantly available. At federal level, the US Congress enacted the ten years ban of automatic and semiautomatic weapons in 1994.

Consequently, we live in one of the only first world countries that does not have extensive gun laws and restrictions to gun access. Aside from the countless homicides and suicides by firearm in this country, one particular issue within this predicament is mass shootings, with the most recent mass shooting occurring on February 14th, 2018 at a high school in Parkland, Florida where 17 people were killed. Although, it may seem like an easy fix to just implement gun control laws into our society to eliminate gun violence, but it is important to note that Americans own nearly half of all firearms globally, which is roughly 325 million guns;

According to a CNN article, “An analysis performed by CNN found that states that have enacted magazine restrictions are associated with fewer mass shooting events.” Another research study done by Louis Klaverous, at the University of Massachusetts at Boston, and author of “Rampage Nation,” showed similar results. Klaverous said, “We have found that when large capacity mags are regulated, you get drastic drops in both the incidence of gun massacres and the fatality rate of gun massacres.” In his research, he defined gun massacres as a massacre where six or more people were shot and killed. He found that in the decade following the end of the federal ban, there was a 183% increase in massacres, and a 239% increase in the number of deaths in a massacre.

The shootings that have happened in schools throughout America over the past few months has divided Americans on what they need to do as a nation to stop additional shootings from occouring. Many believe that creating new laws on buying weapons by requiring background checks, holding adults liable for the actions of their kids and requiring safety devices on weapons to stop youngsters will stop these massacres in schools from happening, it 's a step in the right direction, however, it 's not good enough nor is it effective enough, America needs well regulated gun laws and the politicians must understand that the laws should be based on facts, not opinions. There are several problems that need to be looked at in order to determine which laws are necessary. According to a recent study, America has the highest amount gun related deaths every year in the world. “Germany, has 371 gun related deaths, France 255, Canada 165, the united kingdom 68, Australia 65, Japan 39 and America, 11,200”.

For example, the accident happened in Sandy Hook Elementary School leads to 20 deaths for primacy school students and 6 deaths for staffs. It is hard to imagine what degree of sadness in their family may suffer. In this way, many people think the government should have stronger gun control regulations.

I believe that the Gun Control Laws should be stricter here around the United States because almost everyday something bad is happening by the use of a gun.

Through this same time, it seems as if there has been an increase in the death toll to the lives of American citizens. From the bombing of the World Trade Center in 2001, to the Sandy Hook Shooting, the rate of mass killings in the U.S. looks to be at an all time high. President Obama and many other politicians believe that the answer to stopping all of these acts of terrorism is the further restriction of firearms in the country. The fact of the matter is, the further implication of restrictions to the right to keep and bear arms is not the key to stopping these mass murders.

The country is divided with some wanting to reevaluate our gun control laws and either ban or add additional regulations to the purchase of guns. Others say it is our right for Americans to own guns and something the founding fathers considered important to put in the Bill of Rights. The number of firearm sales has risen with the number of mass shooting many Americans question if banning guns or certain guns could help decrease the number of gun violence deaths.
