Conformity Vs. Individuality: The Issue Behind School Uniforms

The influence of individuality and conformity on freedomin society. Are choices, actions, and thoughts influenced by rules or reasons? Is our freedom based on conformity or individuality?In society there is individuality and there is conformity. These two aspects are considered as two sides of the same coin in which one cannot be without the other. These contradictions are what makes society function and develop.

On the other hand, Schools with new uniforms face parents and student unable to afford uniforms and the diversity of the student body. Although the dress code provides the students a sense of personal style, uniforms create social equality and reduces the time for students to get ready in the morning making

This is one of those debates that happens over and over again. My judgement on school uniforms is a yes and a no. It would stop bullying over clothing but it basically tells the kids that they can’t express themselves at school. School uniforms would stop distractions but the children would feel like they can’t show their differences in clothing like some kids like colorful stuff and some have traditional clothing and some like certain things that they like to dress in. School uniforms are not a bad idea but the flaw is how the uniforms affect the students minds.

Requiring every student to dress the same can help to make everyone equal and therefore cut down on feeling superior to one another. On the other hand, you have to consider that bullying happens everywhere and most likely will still continue to exist in a school with uniforms, although it may help to decrease it a significant amount. Bullying is a serious issue, but the school board has to figure out if uniforms will help or hurt their cause. As far as hurting, I am not sure what damage it could do to the bullying cause but I am sure there is some. Now that I consider it, it would make those less fortunate easier to discover.

Some parents and people think when we give them uniforms it takes away their freedom of expression and restricts them from showing who they are. This is wrong. They can still express themselves in many ways, such as: wearing unique tennis shoes, styling their hair however they want, mix and matching the uniform pieces, wearing fun jewellery, etc. They can also wear the fun clothing outside of school, whenever they want. Uniforms make it so everyone looks together and one, so no one gets better or worse treatment for what they wear.

I’m trying to convince the Carmel Clay school board to enforce school uniforms. I believe in this claim, and there are a lot of reasons on why I do. The first reason I believe this is because uniforms are an easy way to stay focused on schoolwork, rather than what you’re wearing. The second reason is that this can decrease the amount of bullying that goes on in schools since students will all be wearing the same uniforms. The third and final reason I support this claim is because of time management, and easier organization with your uniform.

This can lessen the bullying over who has the best styled clothing, or whose clothes is worth more. This can lead to students making bad decisions to get the clothes they wanted because what they had was not good enough. Without implementing school uniforms, someone who is being bullied and judged by their, and is lost and do not know where to turn to, might end up ending his life or someone else 's. This is not acceptable. This is not how the leaders of tomorrow should be raised and taught. Action can be either provoked now, or after names are carved into concretes and memorials have been taken placed.

In today 's society, the balance between individualism and conformity to society 's expectations is a prominent and deceptive conflict. Oftentimes, the individual must put his uniqness aside and settle for a view of an occupation, hobby, or idea that society agrees with. Instead of expressing original and creative ideas, they are held hostage by comparing themselves with the lives and accomplishments of others and the standards their our society. One of the biggest tools of society, social media, allows people to to share ideas and interests with everyone. However, naturally, one will only post what he knows others will accept and enjoy just as he does.

Envision waking up every morning to put on the same outfit and walk out the door, stress free. People would not have to worry about what fits, or what is fashionable at the time. Schools would not have to worry about inappropriate clothing but at the same time, that clothing may be a way for a student to express himself. Many schools view uniforms as a solution to several problems, but many schools view uniforms as a lack of self expression. School uniforms should continue, even though children may not get to express themselves, because they prohibit violence, provide cheaper lifestyles, and promote better education.

School uniforms give students a sense of unity because they feel like they can fit in without fear of being too different. Making a dress uniform mandatory will decrease sexual harassment, create more interesting humans and make schools safer. A school uniform would make schools safer. The idea of wearing uniforms to schools was originally introduced to reduce violence in schools in 1996 by the Department of Education (Underwood, 1).

This is true due to all statistics stated by many studies, if we want to live in a world where kids want to be able to be themselves everywhere then we must think more deeply about not just our thoughts on uniforms. Many students that know uniforms will be beneficially, but don’t agree with school uniforms will continue to disagree with implementing them. It can be easily agreed that school uniforms may take away their self-expression in school, but what matters more in school is the way of learning. It can also be agreed that many students do not accept the self-expression of their classmates and make fun of them. Students, parents, and school administration should be able to recognize the benefits that school uniforms come with.

While uniforms in high schools promise many benefits, we should not expect that they are a solution for every problem.
