Lately, most kids or pre-teens are starting to dress to old for what age they really are. A solution that is by having school uniforms, they provoke that problem. School uniforms should be required for public schools. They have been increasing in public schools for the past five years. One in five public schools require school uniforms. People say uniforms make school safer for students. Others say it has no positive effect on behavior. School uniforms should be enforced in public schools throughout the world. School uniforms should be required in public schools because uniforms cost less money, cause less peer pressure to fit in, and allow students to stay more focused in school. For example from the article “School Uniforms- Pros and Cons” it says that there is less peer pressure to fit in when they’re not wearing the trendy brands and they’re all wearing the same thing. From the article “Pros and con” it states “Students always want to wear the “popular” brand of clothing and they talk about it too which gets them off topic” (Hertzler,1). By having school uniforms students will stay more focused on schoolwork instead of what the “popular trend” or brand is for that moment. Students like talking about in class what style or type of clothing they’re getting. Usually kids also compliment each others clothes which would get them off topic and not paying attention in class. But when kids wear school uniforms, yes they may still talk about clothing, but since everyone is wearing the same thing it would be very less likely for people to talk about. Kids do worse on tests since they are distracted when the teacher is teaching. They will be talking about clothes instead and looking at other people’s clothes. Having school uniforms will keep the students more focused since they see the same outfit on the same person every day. Students care a lot about what they wear to school. Sometimes they are actually late to school because they take too long on deciding on what they should wear. By having school uniforms students will not be too late to school …show more content…
One example could be, if there is an intruder in their school it will be easier to catch them since they obviously aren’t wearing the same color or style as everyone else. The intruder will be spotted out easier and will be a much and faster way of dealing with the situation. Even though it may not be safer, they can deal with what is going on faster so it could result in less people getting injured. Also it’s easier for the staff/ administration to enforce a dress code. When children are at a school without a dress code people wear whatever they want. There will be more kids wearing what they want which would be harder in enforcing a dress code. By having school uniforms most people will follow it and less people will disobey it. Lastly, parents also like school uniforms. Some parents don’t like the fact on kids dressing how they want, but school uniforms will make the school a better place and keep the parents happy. Studies show that %86 of parents like school uniforms and the parents say it is lighter on their pockets. They think it makes the most memories for a child and will still enjoy school by also showing pride. Overall, school uniforms are a lot easier on the staff and give them a little break, and parents really enjoy school uniforms for their kids and think that they get a lot of benefits from
They may seem like they help, but school uniforms aren't what we're looking for. They are both a restriction on student rights and schools don't have the power to enforce clothing on students. Making uniforms mandatory is useless and won't solve the problem.- (Forster and Geier 1.) In agreement with this statement, some may argue with this saying some kids can afford better clothes, and it's distracting, etc. People make money in order to get nice things like that, because someone doesn't like something or can't get something doesn't mean they should take it away for others.
This is one of those debates that happens over and over again. My judgement on school uniforms is a yes and a no. It would stop bullying over clothing but it basically tells the kids that they can’t express themselves at school. School uniforms would stop distractions but the children would feel like they can’t show their differences in clothing like some kids like colorful stuff and some have traditional clothing and some like certain things that they like to dress in. School uniforms are not a bad idea but the flaw is how the uniforms affect the students minds.
Uniforms Are Not For Students What if every student was required to wear uniforms at school? This question is brought up a lot with discussing school dress code. Many people think that wearing uniforms would be beneficial to the students.
Some parents that are on a strict budget don’t want to and can’t pay the extra money for a uniform. School uniforms: Pros and Cons says, “Parents raise concerns about the cost.” Some other families can’t even afford these uniforms and are using all their money just to provide needed things like food or appliances to use around the house. Clearly, the evidence shows that most students and parents think school uniforms are expensive.
School is a place where kids should be able to express themselves, not be put in regulated clothing. School is probably one of the only place kids can express themselves. Kids should not have to wear uniforms because uniforms take away our freedom of expression.
The effect on this is that kids will either want to come to school. Another reason is because students will be nervous for school everyday. That why students should not wear uniform. In conclusion uniforms is a bad idea. Another reason students should not wear uniform is because students parents might struggle for paying for uniform and and the kids might feel uncomfortable wearing uniform.
In 2007, “87.9% of the students were opposed to uniforms at MD public school” (Wharton). There is a debate between parents, students and teachers about school uniforms being enforced in public schools since the 2000’s. Many people say that school uniforms shouldn’t be worn in public schools, while others disagree. Despite the debate, there shouldn't be a need to wear school uniforms. School Uniforms should not be worn because they violate a humans right of freedom of expression.
Envision waking up every morning to put on the same outfit and walk out the door, stress free. People would not have to worry about what fits, or what is fashionable at the time. Schools would not have to worry about inappropriate clothing but at the same time, that clothing may be a way for a student to express himself. Many schools view uniforms as a solution to several problems, but many schools view uniforms as a lack of self expression. School uniforms should continue, even though children may not get to express themselves, because they prohibit violence, provide cheaper lifestyles, and promote better education.
For example, when the Long Beach Unified School District made students K-8 wear uniforms, suspensions in elementary dropped by 28%, suspensions in middle school dropped by 36%, there was a 51% decrease in fights with students K-8, and a 34% drop in assault and battery in kids K-8. This shows that the crime in the Long Beach Unified School District decreased after uniforms were implemented in grades K-8. It also prevents gangs from forming on campus and a display of gang colors. Also it helps identify intruders in school because everyone will be wearing a uniform, so the intruder will stand out and it will help keep the school safe. The last reason that it stops most crime is, it may discourage students from committing a crime which will also help keep the school and students safer.
There are three major positions on this issue. The first position is that student dress codes are necessary to produce a safe and productive environment for students, which will facilitate high achievement. The second position goes even farther, and says that dress codes should mandate uniforms for all students, claiming that the uniforms will make students focus more while removing concerns about fashion differences that would otherwise harm their self-esteem. Last, there is the position that school uniforms are unnecessary, and that they pose an unfair cost burden to families and restrict students' constitutional rights to free expression. Each side has some evidence in its favor, but ultimately the lack of hard statistics on costs and grading effects from dress codes make it apparent that more research is necessary to figure out what position has the best support for
Imagine you are sitting in a classroom filled with polite and poised children dressed all the same in their school uniforms. You feel peaceful and chaos free. School uniforms are required in a lot of public schools throughout all of america, but some aren't. This issue is affecting plenty of citizens throughout the united states. School uniforms should be required in all public schools across the united states because, school uniforms reduce the amount of distraction in the classroom, school uniforms create a positive, no violence culture and climate on campus, and lastly school uniforms end the competition between the rich and poor, weather it being about who has the nicest or most new up to date clothes.
School uniforms give students a sense of unity because they feel like they can fit in without fear of being too different. Making a dress uniform mandatory will decrease sexual harassment, create more interesting humans and make schools safer. A school uniform would make schools safer. The idea of wearing uniforms to schools was originally introduced to reduce violence in schools in 1996 by the Department of Education (Underwood, 1).
In conclusion, school uniforms are a great thing to have in schools. Even though there is that argument on whether school uniforms will violate the right of self-expression to students it will continue either way. At the end of the day students should see that there are more positive effects with uniforms rather than negative ones. It should be taking in consideration that the clothes a student wears will not determine the ability of learning, but why not pick school uniforms that can help stop current school
Should we have school uniforms? it’s hard to think that something as little as wearing school uniforms could help in how a student learns but if you think about it, it affects a lot of things. People think applying school uniforms restricts a students freedom of expression. However it is rather weak argument. Uniforms do not take away a students right.
“Uniforms sends a message and remind students that they are in school. One element of the message that when students are going to school that is their place of work” a quote taken from Joe Palumbo, the Co-Principal of Newacomb Academy. School uniforms create an identity for a school because without them there would be more difficulty in students to maintain school rules, and school uniforms teach students to dress properly and take pride in their appearance. One purpose of a school uniform is for identification and people will be able to distinguish which school students go to based on type of clothing they wear. I strongly believe that school uniforms should not be banned from schools because they are cost-efficient, promote equality among
