Being an outstanding teacher goes beyond acquiring the competence and knowledge to deliver rigorous academic instruction to a diverse group of students. Outstanding teachers possess a multitude of qualities making them unique and unforgettable to the children they serve. I believe that outstanding teachers are passionate, inspired, creative, compassionate, patient and understanding. They take the time to know their students and know them well. They appreciate what attributes to each child’s story and take ownership of their role in the child’s life for that school year. I feel that I have the skills and attributes of an outstanding teacher because of the pride I take in the love and support I show my students and families. I incorporate this learned experience daily and learn through each success and discovered area of improvement. Addressing my students needs using a variety of assessment tools has been a beneficial practice to help guide instruction. Students have different learning styles and their strengths and weaknesses are not always apparent using the same methods of assessment. Utilizing formative, standards(goal)-based, anecdotal, observational and benchmarks has driven my instructional programs. The combination of different assessments provides me with a multi-dynamic perspective of my students allowing me to better understand their strengths, weakness and academic needs. 1. Some examples of formative assessments are observation, using questioning strategies, and journaling. Some summative assessments examples are lesson rubrics, performance tasks, and art portfolios. Students will also be able to write a self-evaluation after each lesson, and comprehend new strategies and techniques through the collaboration of class discussions. Using observation and anecdotal assessments provides multiple opportunities to view children learning and provides a more realistic view of their learning than an assessment, which only allows for right or wrong answers. •
Most of my field work has been in The Akron Public School District which has allowed me to gain a lot of experience with urban youth students in the Akron area. I have been placed into preschool, Kindergarten, 1st grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, and high school classrooms which has allowed me to be given a wide variety of experiences with teachers and students. During my placement in the preschool classroom, I was able to learn about the importance of including lessons that enrich each area of a child’s development. While working with the Kindergarten students, I was able to observe a classroom that was run based on centers and small group instruction. I enjoyed working with the students in this classroom as many of the centers were game based which established a fun way for the students to learn.

I am pursing a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. I am passionate about education and excited to share the joy of learning with students. The perspective of wonder and sense of excitement that children bring into education motivates me daily. Teaching can leave a lasting impression in a child’s life and offers a special opportunity to shape the bright young minds of future generations. While many professions can be impactful, I believe the qualities of the person in the career position to be the most influential.
The narrative “the gestures of grace” by Alison Melotti-Cormack is about what makes someone a good teacher. A good teacher is someone who loves to learn. A good teacher should be able to connect with and understand their students. A good teacher learns to welcome the student that pushes her to the limit and makes her feel like she could explode. A good teacher evolves and changes over time.
I believe that outstanding teachers are committed to teaching. They are patient, courteous, punctual, always prepared, unbiased and are good listeners who support their students emotional and academic needs. They know all their students well and establish a positive classroom environment by accepting their student 's unique personalities and abilities where students feel free to share ideas without fear and judgment. Furthermore, outstanding teachers understands that teaching is a group effort. Therefore, they create a mutually respectful and honest relationship with students, parents, and anyone involved in the learning process.
Language: the language that teachers use has to be high level, which conveys a sense of professionalism that is honourable, moral and dignified. Professional judgement: the teacher should be able to place the needs of the students at the center of professional judgement. The teacher should be aware of his/her individual values, personal experience, commitment to authenticity, decision-making processes and work towards providing sound judgement. There is a school of thought which says that judgement grows with time and implies knowledge and wisdom, that teachers’ judgment improves with time. However, it is essential to ensure that all teachers possess a significant level of professional judgment.
Learners will be evaluated by verbal questionings and 1 supervised practice using a skill checklist (Appendix 2) as formative assessment. From Melland and Volden (1998) discussion, classroom assessment is a type of formative assessment, 3 domains of learning which is cognitive, psychomotor and affective can be assess. When engaged in instructional design, it is less common for the designer to have affective objectives than cognitive objectives (Smith and Ragan, 2005, pg. 266). In the program, observation will be used to assess affective objective.
When discussing assessments most people envision a pen and paper evaluation that measures the acquired knowledge on any given subject. While this is partly true it’s important as educators that we understand that there are many different ways that a student’s knowledge can be assessed. One ideal way is to provide the students with an authentic assessment. Authentic assessments demonstrate what a student actually learns in class rather than their ability to do well on traditional tests. Which makes this type of assessment an excellent way of evaluating a student’s knowledge of a subject matter.
Many adjectives can be used to describe an outstanding teacher. These adjectives might include words like patient, caring, supportive, flexible, dedicated, organized, and professional. As I progress towards becoming a professional educator I have learned that there is a limitless number of skills and attributes that are applicable to becoming an outstanding teacher. There are three important skill areas that I would like to address. Any outstanding teacher must excel in these areas. These three skill sets include instructional skills, structure skills, and relationship skills.
A teacher is a person who delivers an educational program, assesses student participation in an educational program, and administers or provides consistent and substantial leadership to an educational program. Teachers have the very important responsibility of shaping our generation to become someone one days. A teacher is also an agent for the realization of national educational philosophy which to produce individuals who are balanced in terms of physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and social. Success is a journey, not a destination. Looking back at my previous years as a young student has led me to contemplate on the lessons it has taught me and how it has impacted on my development. I always liked going to school and the learning process was enjoyable. Despite my numerous positive memories, one encounter with a specific teacher has resided with me for the past seven years.
