The Freak Show Analysis

The novel The Madonnas of Echo Park by Brando Skyhorse, explains the concept of borderline through the life of Aurora and her half-sister Angie by showing how they felt divided into both sides of either looking for a better life outside of Echo Park or staying there as how their parents did. Through the sisters’ life’s, I learned how the people around you and your choices can cause you to be in a borderline that could be difficult to decide what you want in life. Borderline is the “frontera”, but in the novel borderline is presented as in the space in which the two sisters are in and how they have two pathways to follow and they don’t know what to do since the people around them contribute to them being in a borderline. In chapter 2, Aurora’s borderline is presented with her wanting to have the big house and money Mrs. Calhoun, Felicia’s boss, had which is shown when she is invited to have a pool party with her friends there.

Will has become more independent and make his own choices, because of the evil situation Jim is in. He chooses love and joy, which saves Jim. Choosing love and joy over evil shows true

This scene over any others is the most important instance of religion being depicted in the movie. Will goes to church where people should be willing to do what is right and help, but instead they back down and leave will to deal with Frank Miller alone this is an instance where religion is something to be relied upon but instead it lets Will down. There are also two points where religion is used because it is needed and convenient. One with Will asking the church, he himself did not attend or think it important enough to get married in, to help him fight Frank miller. Most interesting the second instance is actually done by the priest and the people attending church these are people that should have had no question as to what the right thing to do was but instead the priest came up with an excuse to not tell the people in the church to go and fight.

First look at the rules the men of Wills community live by, No crying. No snitching. Revenge. This is ingrained into Will’s head. He even plans revenge the night his brother dies, acting on rule 3.

Will at the start of the story wanted to find a sense of belonging but doubted that he could find it. For example, when Charles asked him to join the basketball team he denied him at first saying “I 'm not good enough to play” Harleen

“Thinking like a freak” is the way of thinking which is illogical, foolish and the most risky. According to Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner,”thinking like a freak” is very easy, but most people don’t choose it to solve their problems. There are three reasons why people usually hold the idea off from“thinking like a freak”, include: protecting own reputation, making predictions, and getting feedbacks. The first reason why people usually hold the idea off from “thinking like a freak” is protecting their own reputation. Most of people’s reputations are very high and “thinking like a freak” breaks the rule of each people.

One day, she got killed by a nearby shootout while they were playing, which ultimately altered Will's entire childhood and life. It impelled Shawn to teach him about the "rules "and adulthood because his childhood was already beginning to collapse on itself. The reason is that he just witnessed his best friend dying in front of him and described it as, "Her eyes wide, / the brightness dimming. / Her mouth, open.

Ever sense Will was a child he he looked up to Will, “When we were kids I would follow Shawn around the apartment” (289). When little children look up to someone theu often follow them arround and copy them. Which is what Wil lwas doing with Shawn at the time. Which shows Shawn has the biggest impact on Will. Shawn could do a few tricks that Will and his friends thought were cool, “Shawn could so both so he was the king around here to me and tony and all our friends”(54).

It gives such an in depth perspective of someone who suffers from this disease, and shares it in a way that makes others understand it; rather than judge like many people are prone to do. Frankie and Alice also shows that with the help of others, it is possible to somewhat defeat this disorder, by cohabitating with the alter egos. He took the time to listen to what she was saying and what she was going through, which led him to a better understanding of her psyche and of what she was upset about. I also agree with his thoughts about her not being mad about just the church piano, but being mad about her whole life. “... having a drunkard for a daddy, getting jilted by Mr. McAllister, and being looked on in Cold Sassy as a Yankee outsider.” All of these things are very easy to get mad about and have an outburst over, but when you add in her own community shunning her and taking away something she loves, it all surfaces. Most people would just see it as her acting spoiled because she doesn’t get to do something she is privileged to do anymore, but it is admirable that Will took the time to listen to Miss Love and to understand what she was truly upset

One big way to improve Will’s communication is to deal with the relationship violence that occurred to him. Sean started this for him in the scene where he tried to get Will to see that his upbringing was not his fault. This was a big step for Will to understand himself and how he should see his relationships. Through Sean, Will also learned some emotional understanding of himself. Emotional understanding will allow him to have emotional competence.

During the film Will demonstrates anger as well as irritability in a short tempered manner. In a particular scene, Will becomes overwhelmed with anger after encountering an old classmate who bullied him in preschool. But, there is more to the film, than just a simple lesson at the end.

Wherever we may come from, we can do amazing things in this world. In this world, every human being can be anything they strive to be. Lupe Fiasco released the inspirational song, “The Show Goes On,” on October 26, 2010, as the first single from his third studio album Lasers. He uses motivational and inspirational phrases to motivate the audience to never give up even if they are going through the hardest parts of their lives. Fiasco uses his past to connect to the targeted audience, that being the less fortunate families and those who grew up in harsh conditions.

The poem was labeled misogynistic at the time of its writing, and continues to be viewed as such.
