The Progressive era was a very important time period that changed how people perceive the world. The Progressive era was the age that made different views acceptable and actually encouraged. People with influence started to support minorities and views that have had little to none support. During this time progressivism exploded, and the world was changing. Progressive ideas, or new/futuristic ideas that people had were accepted. People started to voice their opinions, and this period of time was when people actually started to listen. Progressive ideas all started in the Progressive era. The Progressive era was really Progressive because it focused on issues of women’s suffrage, African Americans, and Immigration. During the Progressive Era people focused on women suffrage. To add, President Taft was the person during the Progressive Era who focused on the issue of women suffrage the most. For example, His revolutionary beliefs and actions made him the first president to agree to address the National American Woman’s Suffrage Association Convention. Theodore Roosevelt supported African Americans, and actually took a big step toward helping making them equal. Theodore Roosevelt invited Booker T. Washington to the White House. This has never been done before, and shows how progressive Roosevet’ s ideas were. It says in an article about their dinner, “He had an evening meeting with Booker T. Washington to get his advice on some [cabinet] appointments” (Quealy 1). This showed that times were changing because African Americans were slaves not too long ago, and now Roosevelt was trying to show people that they are equals by inviting, and trusting an African American to help with advice about cabinet appointments. Showing people that African Americans are intelligent people was a progressive idea, which showed how advanced the Progressive Era
The causes of the Progressive era were unsafe working conditions. The progressive era was trying to progress forward and make things better and safer. One very important thing the progressive era did was make working conditions safer and that is what ida tarbell did for the standard oil company. Ida tarbell noticed the unsafe working conditions and fixed it. Ida tarbell had a huge impact on the progressive era and how we live today.

The Progressive Era was a time in United States history when social and political ideologies formed as a response to rapid industrialization. This period lastly roughly from 1895-1920 and is the focus of David E. Alsobrook’s article in the April 2002 issue of The Alabama Review. Although progressives as a whole did not organize to promote equal rights, there were some things done by individuals in order to do so. For example, during President Roosevelt’s time as Governor of New York, he ended school segregation. He also invited Booker T. Washington, a black civil rights activist, to the White House (Murrin, 731). He even appointed some progressive judges in the South, but eventually, lacked the political will to have meaningful change when faced with blowback and resistance. However, the same cannot be said for President Wilson, who supported efforts by white southerners in his cabinet to segregate their governmental departments.

The Progressives Era was semi successful in terms of reforming society for the rights of the middle class, women, children, and the poor. During this time three new amendments were passed in effort to change the american society. Politically, during this era the 17th amendment was passed allowing direction election of senators, and put the initiative and referendum law into place. The 16th amendment created a graduated income tax and the 19th amendment granted women the right to vote. Socially, reformers worked on getting workers a shorter work day, eliminating child labor, and fixing health issues.

The Progressive Era came to an end with World War I as the war exposed humanity's potential for large-scale cruelty (Social Welfare History Project, 2017). National politics took a part in the ending of the Progressive era. The Red Scare was a part of that because America had a fear that the United States would be vulnerable to a communist takeover (Schultz, 2013). America was not meant to be a communist country. Another issue they faced was with race.
Progressivism Progressivism began in the end of the 19th century and continued in the twentieth century as a series of local movements with many different efforts to improve the society. During the Progressive Era, many women joined volunteer organizations to work for reform. Efforts began at the local level but expanded to the state and national level. Women implemented programs and lobbied for legislation to address social, political, and economic problems so as to improve the lives of many.

Prosperity was widespread across America, so people turned to social issues to try to expand. Minorities in particular became a focus of this time period, and everyone tried to find a way to integrate them into society.
