Adnan is then convicted of the murder of his girlfriend, Hae. Adnan is innocent. Adnan has no motivation to commit the murder, Jay Wild’s evidence of Adnan killing Hae is unreliable, and he has an alibi. Adnan has no motivation to commit the murder of Hae min lee. Adnan and Hae broke up a few months prior to Hae’s murder. When Adnan and Hae broke up, he took it as anyone else would. “But nearly everyone I’ve spoke with, Adnan’s friends and teachers say he took the breakup like anyone would. Adnan’s friend Mac Francis said Adnan initially was devastated and …show more content…
Jay Wild is a key witness to the murder of Hae Min Lee. He was an acquaintance of Adnan from high school. Adnan bought weed from Jay and smoked together a few times. He claims Adnan showed him the body and was forced to help bury Hae. “The cops interview him at least four times that I know about. Two of those are on tape. And Jay also tells this story at trial – not once, but twice cause the first proceeding ended in a mistrial. So, at least, say, six times he's told what happened. And each time, some details shift.”(Sarah Koenig, 2014) Jay is not telling the truth. Jay says in one interview they were headed toward Westview mall. However, in the second interview, he states they went to Security Square Mall. Jay’s story isn’t adding up when he says they went to two different locations. Another one of Jay’s statements is he refused to dig a grave for Hae. Although in another interview, he states they both dug the hole. The details Jay gives continue to shift and become inconsistent. He has changed details multiple times including when Adnan and Jay talked about when he was going to kill her. In the first trial, Jay states they talked on the day of the murder. However, in the second trial, Jay says they talked about it 4-5 days before the murder happened. Jay lied multiple times throughout the investigation. He was even known for doing so. One of his alibi’s, Cathy which isn’t her real name omitted Jay …show more content…
Asian McClain is a high school student that went to Woodlawn with both Adnan and Hae. She was in the school library at the time of the murder. “Dear Adnan-- I hope I spelled it right. I'm not sure if you remember talking to me in the library on January 13, but I remember chatting with you." She says, quote, "we aren't really close friends, but I want you to look into my eyes and tell me of your innocence. If I ever find otherwise, I will hunt you down and whip your ass. OK, friend?" At the bottom, she added a little note. "Adnan did not commit the murder. Asia sent him a letter that she saw him in the library. This means he has been spotted somewhere else at the time the murder was committed. Asia talking and seeing Adnan in the library further proves his innocence. Asia’s boyfriend and best friend were in the library on the same day she saw Adnan there. "My boyfriend and his best friend remember seeing you there, too." Adnan has more than one alibi that saw him at the library during the time of the murder. The fact that he already has an alibi and now has more further proves his innocence. Asia McClain, her boyfriend, and his best friend saw Adnan in the library. Adnan has multiple alibi’s proving he is innocent of the murder of Hae Min
They used a kid’s testimony named Jay to put Adnan away, but his claims keep changing over time. The state should not declare Adnan guilty because Jay’s testimony is too inconsistent. Jay is very inconsistent in his testimonies. According to Serial Timeline Map, Jay’s first interview he said that he saw Hae’s body in the trunk of her own car at the Edmondson strip
Burrowing Adnan’s car and then meeting up with Adnan after at Best Buy where Adnan showed him the lifeless body of Hae in the parking lot. After this he asked him to help bury the body. Jay decided to assist and bury the body claiming to have gone to Leakin Park with Adnan and digging a shallow 6 inch grave for Hae. This was the main evidence in the case that the state used to sentence Adnan to the murder of Hae. Jay was the main witness and placed Adnan with Hae before the murder and then with the dead body and getting rid of the
Asia Mcclain who now goes by Asia Chapman was a former classmate of Adnan and Hae at Woodlawn high school in Baltimore, Maryland. “At 2:30 pm I saw Adnan enter the library.” Ep 1. She claimed to have saw Adnan at the time of the murder in the school library. McClain was a primarily alibi witness.
She discovers information that could potentially free Adnan or at the minimum give him another trial. The first reason why Adnan might be innocent is because when Hae and Adnan broke up he took it like a normal person would. He didn’t have rage in him according to his friends and the people around him.
The evidence will show that the State's main witness, Jay Wilds, who was allegedly involved in the aiding of the victims murder, is an unreliable witness. Jay’s testimony has many inconsistencies and misleading information. During Jay’s interrogation with the police, he changes multiple parts of his story. The following are a few of the modifications the witness made, one Jay states to have refused to help in the digging of the victims grave but later reforms his story and states he did. Two, Jay told police Adnan informed him about his plan to murder Ms. Lee the day the murder occurred but later alters his story and says Adnan had frequently mentioned killing her.
Everyone that knew Adnan told Sarah Koenig that he was not the type of guy to hurt anyone, he was seen as the “golden child” and people could not possibly believe that he was capable any wrongdoing. Moreover, the young couple had many secrets which probably caused tension between them. A few days before Hae Min Lee’s disappearance Adnan purchased a cell phone. This cell phone would play a big part in this mystery because the evidence used from this phone is not
Hae Min Lee was an extraordinary girl who had a bright future ahead of her, until she was murdered on January 13. Hae Min Lee was only 18 years old when she was murdered and the person who was charged for her murder was Adnan Syed; Adnan was Hae’s ex boyfriend and was believed to have kill Hae, and there was enough evidence to help prove that he was guilty. However that is not the case for Adnan, because he is innocent and did not kill Hae Min Lee on January 13. The first thing that should be pointed out is about when Adnan found out that Hae had died; he was clearly shown to be very distraught. As described by others they say, “We went inside and Adnan was sitting at the kitchen crying, after a while he said that there had to be a mistake and Hae was still alive…
Adnan and the victim, Hae, started dating in 1998. The two were in love but had to
One piece of evidence that proves that Adnan is innocent and that did not kill Hae Lee is Jay's inconsistencies in his stories and interviews when talking to the police. When Jay is being interviewed by the police he tells in chronological order what happened and what he remembers from that night when Hae Lee was murdered. Evertime Jay told his story a small detail or location would change and not match up with the original story. In Episode 4: Inconsistencies Jay is being interviewed by the police, they had asked “why would you lie about the location? ”. Jay responded with, “Because I’m
This evidence shows and should have shown back in 1999 tha Jay was not a credible source and should not have been
This starts at the disappearance of Hae Min Lee, a senior who goes to Woodlawn High School on January 13, 1999. Lee was a victim using strangulation. Her ex-boyfriend Adnan was accused of first degree murder, serving 30 years + life in prison because there was a good deal of evidence that are against him. There are many opinions and theories here on whether Adnan killed her or not. Adnan is guilty for acting suspicious.
These people say that since Hae broke up with Adnan and that was enough reason to want her dead. However, Adnan was a smart kid who would realize that killing someone for breaking up with you is not a valid reason. Adnan was not hurt enough to kill Hae; he was devastated when she died and he didn't know about it when he was told. Also, they say that Adnan had enough time to kill Hae. What this opinion fails to take into account is that Asia saw Adnan at the library around the same time of the murder and she was never used in court as an alibi (Koenig, “The Best Defense is a Good Defense”).
”(Koening #1). Asia was also able to state that they were talking for an average of 15 to 20 minutes, but her boyfriend also states that he saw Adnan in the library from 2:15 to 3:00. Since Adnan was at the library that proves that he could not have killed Hae and that Jay is lying again about his story. This evidence changed that whole case and makes Jay seem less reliable to the cops and the state. If Adnan had discovered this valuable information earlier it would have given him the alibi
Putting these circumstances aside, it was said by many that the relationship was pretty typical and Adnan got over the breakup easily. This was said by teachers and friends of both Hae and Adnan. One of Hae’s friends, Becky, explained the relationship as “just a silly, teenage, high school, relationship” (Koenig “The Breakup”) which proves that Adnan was not as upset as the prosecution made him out to be at trial. Another notable aspect is that after Hae and Adnan broke up, Hae got in a small car accident and asked Adnan to come help her, her new boyfriend Don also showed up and confirms that him and Adnan had a cordial meeting and explains that they talked for 10 to 15 minutes even after the car situation had been figured out (Koenig “What We Know”). If Adnan was really that broken up about the breakup, he would not have been so friendly towards the new guy who seemed to take his place in Hae’s life.
She states “A year after Adnan was arrested and the case came to trial, Jay walked up to the witness stand. There’s a moment when Adnan muttered something to him” (45). By Adnan calling Jay pathetic he showed that he couldn’t believe Jay would rat him out. This incident shows that Adnan is a liar and is mad at Jay for going to the police, showing that he is guilty. Even after controlling himself through the whole case he snapped when he saw the man that betrayed him.
