Preetam Debasish Saha Roy PhD Applicant to the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Texas A&M University From the earliest records of man, he has held on to one deathless theme - the attribute of bending nature to his benefit. From the prehistoric man who invented the wheel to simplify transportation to the present age scientists who harness the power of nuclear energy, there has been a single need - making life on earth simpler, safer, and a joy. This has made man what he is today. My aims and goals are no different. As for my means, I have chosen to specialize in Mechanical Engineering. Starting from high school days I have always been fascinated by technological innovations and in unraveling the mysteries of the world around …show more content…
To study in this field, I had to overcome hurdles, a common entrance examination, which I had to take along with hundreds of thousands of students, all aspiring to get through. I passed with flying colors, being placed in the top 0.5% of all students who took the examination and got admitted to Mechanical Engineering in Jadavpur University, one of the most prestigious universities in India. Extensive and well-structured courses along with complimentary labs and experimental works have prepared me well for broad area that Mechanical Engineering encompasses. A distinguished faculty, facilities in the university, my fellow peers and my zeal for success have helped me achieve brilliant academic record throughout my undergraduate studies. The undergraduate study in Mechanical Engineering has given me a comprehensive exposure to a wide spectrum of courses, namely, Heat transfer, Fluid mechanics, Internal combustion engine, Thermodynamics etc. In the second and third year of undergraduate studies I started building keen interest towards the subjects in the thermal-fluids domain. My propensity for thermal-fluids played a role in my selection of electives like Principles of energy conservation, Aerodynamics in my final year of undergraduate …show more content…
Securing a rank of 444 out of 82,000 students, helped me get admission in prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, one of the top five universities in India. I choose to pursue my Masters study in Thermal Science and Engineering because of my inclination towards thermal-fluids domain. During my first year of graduate studies advanced courses such as Computational Fluid Dynamics, Gas Turbine and Jet Propulsion, Convective Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics fueled my desire for a research career in thermal sciences. Also, during my master’s study, tutorials, practice problems given in the class fueled my interest in numerical programming, which lead to exploring different options like C, EES (Engineering Equation Solver),
This is just one of several reasons why I hope to achieve an engineering
It is truly remarkable. I am really interested in Digital Media and Graphic Design. In previous years I have taken Computer Technology, Digital Media and Commercial Art. Within those classes I’ve learned how to work in Adobe products such as Illustrator and Photoshop. I have also worked a lot with Microsoft, and I plan on becoming Microsoft
People are always focused on being the creator; they invent amazing innovations, but no one knows how to apply them. Rather than create an unusable, new technology, I’d like to focus on creating new purposes for the technology. Often the simplest solutions are the most brilliant. To think of the way to utilize and advance what is at hand is the challenge. My interest in technology was sparked by my own curiosity and fascination; since the 6th grade I would always check Yahoo News’s Science and Technology tab, taking my newfound knowledge of amazing new advancements and sharing it with my family at the dinner table.
As a young teenager, I was lost on what I wanted to do as an adult. What was my path? Was I going to be a doctor? A lawyer? I had no idea.
What does interest me is finding new ways to make the world a better place to live in
The second subject I will like to work on is being aware of the emerging technologies in education in the future. This is something I will always continue to do because technology
A thermodynamic engineer applies theories of heat and energy transfers to invent practical solutions to technical problems. They design, develop and test and evaluate products and machinery. Thermodynamic engineers contribute to the design of the kettle for they develop inventions designed to improve the way the heating works in a kettle, such as by creating new heating element concepts or overhauls of the interior layout. A bachelor’s degree in a related chemical or mechanical engineering field is required as there is not direct degree for thermodynamics. An undergraduate course called ‘Engineering Thermodynamics’ is available in the University of
Aerospace Engineering Have you ever thought about who designs airplanes? Maybe you’ve wondered who builds spacecraft. From landing on the moon to the Wright brother’s aerospace engineers are responsible for what people can do with what goes on in the sky. Becoming an engineer of any kind is not easy there are many steps to becoming an aerospace engineer. It requires a lot of hard work and dedication, and includes a minimum of four years in college.
In the main quadrangle, I struck up a conversation with a UChicago student. When I asked him what he was majoring in, he said with a completely straight face, “Religious Studies and Astrophysics”. While other institutions might satisfy one of my interests, UChicago can satiate them all. I’ve always been curious, which unquestionably translated into a love for discovery. Instead of wanting dolls for my birthdays, I asked for Legos or 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles.
In order to gain a deeper knowledge in the field of aerodynamics, I undertook my postgraduate studies in Aeronautical Engineering with a strong focus on fluid mechanics modules. During my Master’s degree studies, I have developed a critical and analytical thinking as well as strong problem-solving skills in each of the main fields of aerodynamics engineering: low-speed aerodynamics, compressible aerodynamics, instability and turbulence, computational fluid dynamics and experimental fluid dynamics. Through academic projects and case studies, I have improved my learning capabilities as well as my communication skills by means of oral and written reports of my works. Because of the tight deadlines, these projects have also taught me the importance of learning quickly and being flexible in my approach. Moreover, I was in charge of a students team operating in the experimental facility, establishing work schedules and leading the maintenance of the equipment, developing a great sense of teamwork and
Over the last decade, we have seen pioneers like Elon Musk change how we view space travel. Mark Zuckerberg has revolutionized how people communicate and connect around the world. Today, we are experiencing our own version of the Renaissance. We will continue to see groundbreaking discoveries would make history and change the course of humankind. We can only hope that new inventions and discoveries change the course of the world in a way the printing press did.
Spending 14 years in –NAME of SCHOOL--- School new delhi, I have been privileged to have the exposure to ethnic, cultural and social diversity. It is renowned to be one of the largest and most prestigious institutions in the heart of the National Capital Region. Life as I have known, has been a quite a ride. I have made many mistakes, but more importantly I have grown by learning from these mistakes and from those of others. I’ve learnt that the answer to my destiny lies in creating the results that I desire.
After exploring the different wings of Mechanical Engineering, graduate education would be the right place to work and explore my interest specific to Mechanical Designing. A doctoral degree will not only enable me to venture out to different domains in design and analysis but also help to develop myself as an independent individual with a sense of responsibility. I’ll also get to work with like-minded people in a competitive environment conducive to constructive learning. Graduate school also offers positions for research and teaching assistantships which would prepare me for a career in teaching. The research internship at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore has taught me that leaving the comforts of the home country and immersing myself in an entirely new culture will push the boundaries of my capabilities.
Right from my childhood days, I was always eager to know how things work in surroundings. When I was given toys, I hardly played with them rather tried to dismantle it and try to know the mechanism running it. During school days, I have participated in many science exhibitions which further motivated me towards taking my knowledge and experience onto a higher and advanced level. With this desire and curiosity to understand machines and mechanisms, I chose to complete my graduation in Mechanical Engineering.
